Does your LO have a football jersey?

DH is a huge Ravens fan, so every year we buy DS a new Ravens jersey.  The first 2 were onesies and held up pretty well.  Last year the number was definitely starting to flake off by the end of the season, so I looked into how to properly care for the jersey this year.  I followed the instructions to the letter (wash inside out, and line dry) but this year, DS's jersey was worse than ever!  The number started coming off halfway through the season, and now it is barely wear-able (good thing the season is over!)

Is this normal wear and tear for a kid's jersey?  I have had my jersey for several years, and it still looks perfectly fine.  Or maybe I just got DS a bad shirt this year?  Anyone else have this happen?

Anyone have a tips or tricks for how to keep the jersey looking decent through the entire season?

So glad the season is over, so I can TRASH this awful looking jersey!

  • No,  We have had ds's jersey for 2 seasons - bought big last year.  It still looks like new.  He only wears it on game name for the most part - so 16 times (we haven't made the playoffs in a while).  I do what you said wash inside out.

  • Ds has one but rarely wears it so we haven't experienced any of those issues.

  • DS has several hockey ones.  One lasted a longish time considering how often he wore it and how tough he is on it, the other not so much.  I think it's just a quality control issue and some brands are better than others.
  • All of us have Patriots jerseys (Tom Brady to be exact).  We're HUGE Patriots fans around here.  DS is now wearing the one that DD#1 wore when she was about a year old so it's at least 4+ years old and maybe 5.  (I can't remember if she wore it as a baby even though it's a 2T.  We always buy the authentic gear.  It's not cheap, but I got two of the kids' jerseys on ebay in 2T and 3T that were barely worn.  DD#1's newest one wasn't cheap at all.  She didn't have one this year until the playoffs and I decided she *needed* one before the first game later that week so I had to order from amazon and pay retail and they didn't have any 4T in stock so I had to pay more for a children's small.  My jersey is probably at least 5-6 years old or older and I've never had a problem with it.  We do wash them on cold and really only wear them a few Sundays during the season.  In 2008, DD#1 wore her jersey for every game day and they won them all except the Superbowl so I was washing it every week and that's the 2T one DS is wearing this year.  I think the key is to get the name brand.  It's so expensive, but it's going through three kids around here so it's worth it.  Smile
  • I bought my son a Seahawks jersey 2 seasons ago and it seems to be alright.  He doesn't wear it though since it's a Matt Hasselbeck and he's no longer a Hawk.  Usually I buy him a personalized on with his NAME and age for the # but lately our Pro Shop has been out of toddler jerseys.
