Anterior Placenta and movement?

Hello ladies,

At my A/S on Monday I found out I have an anterior placenta, which makes sense because I have not felt my baby at all.  For those of you who have an anterior placenta or who have in previous pregnancies when did you start feeling the baby move?  Was your husband ever able to feel the baby kicking or did the anterior placenta block him from feeling the baby?  Thanks for your help!!

Re: Anterior Placenta and movement?

  • I was told I had one at my anatomy scan as well.  I felt movement 4 days after (20w 5 days) and have been feeling it everyday since.

  • I had an anterior placenta with DS.  I don't remember how far along I was when I finally felt him move, but I do know that it was much later than the rest of the ladies on the bump.  That being said, it didn't prevent DH from feeling him.  In fact, we used to sit in bed at night and watch my belly move!  It was a crazy experience.  Sometimes DS would move my entire shirt with one strong kick.

  • It wasn't until around 20 weeks that I started feeling distinct kicks. Looking back on it, if I drank OJ and laid on my stomach I could feel what seemed like muscle twings. That was actually DD moving, but I had no idea at the time.

Your husband will definitely be able to feel kicks eventually. Like PP, you could see DD's foot moving across my belly, or when she had her head on one side and her butt sticking out the other it'd make my belly look disformed.

  • I was told I have an Anterior Placenta at my last u/s, but I have been feeling subtle movements since about 17 weeks. Nothing constant, but still movement. For the last couple of weeks I have felt it daily, and last night (20w5d) DH finally felt some movement for the first time.

  • I had one last time. I felt flutters about 16w but didn't feel real kicks until 24ish weeks.  Mine must have been super thick b/c H only got to feel him kick a handful of times the whole pregnancy.  My mom & BFF (who I worked with) never got to feel him.  I could feel him every day, but it was always more like general movement than real kicking.  On the plus side, I never lost sleep b/c of him kicking.

  • I *may* have felt something at 20w6d, but nothing that was obvious movement yet!

  • Finally  having obvious movement this week at 21 weeks. I think DH would be able to feel it, but he never leaves his hand on my belly long enough to catch any movement. I'm sure it will happen soon.

  • I have an anterior placenta and felt the LO at 19 weeks, 2 days.  The one thing I missed out on was the "flutters".  I never really felt those, but it was certainly obvious when I got a big old kick!  Felt AND saw it.

  • I have an anterior placenta and felt the baby move around 16 or 17 weeks, but it was such faint movements that I wasn't 100% sure that's what I was feeling.  The first real, solid kick I got was at 18 weeks and since then this boy hasn't slowed down.  He gets active after breakfast, lunch, during the chemistry lecture I teach, and especially after bedtime.  I should note, however, that I have a "dead spot" in my belly where I never feel movement; I'm guessing that's where the thickest part of my placenta lies. All around that, however, I feel the movement just fine.

My husband has only felt the baby move a few times, mostly because he never keeps his hand on my belly long enough.  I'm in my 22nd week right now and I can definitely feel some of the kicks from the outside, but they're few and far between.  You and your husband will definitely feel the baby.  Once you do, you won't care that you started feeling her/him later than others.  It's so magical that it'll be worth the wait.  :-)
