Back and forth btw yellow and green poops

The other day LO started having some green poops. I don't think that they are really mucousy, but rather more wet than the yellow poops he was having. When he has them, most of the time they are like an army green color. Sometimes he had some that were darker. He was having these randomly. Then the prior two days, all afternoon he had these green poops but then in the morning they are back to yellow. The yellow is more wet than it was before too... not as seedy. I talked to a nurse yesterday morning at the ped office and she said since it went back to yellow (which it was yesterday morning), it should be fine. But then it was back to green! FWIW, he has been cluster feeding these past two afternoons. I already block feed, but he was falling asleep after 15 minutes on one side... then 30 min wake up and eat from the same side again. Could this have something to do with it? I have already cut out all obvious dairy but it looks like maybe I need to try hidden dairy as well. I'm just not sure what to do here.

  • Is he upset? Is he gaining weight?

I don't think colour is that important. The LC at my breastfeeding support group always says if you don't like the  colour, put on sunglasses. It's not something to worry about (or adjust your diet about) if the baby is otherwise doing well.

Frothy poops or bloody poops are when I would get worried.

  • DD2 gets this way occassionally when she's clusterfeeding durring growth sputrs. Once the spurt is over the clusterfeeding stops and the poop goes back to normal. As pp said, I wouldn't worry too much as long as LO is happy and everything is othewise normal.

  • My lc says the army green means dd is getting too much foremilk when feeding so I feed her on just one breast each feeding.  Then her poops come out yellow because she's getting the right balance of the hindmilk, too. So maybe just feed your lo a little longer on one breast before switching?

This.  We get more green poops during growth spurts and when I eat my greens.  Baby poop comes in a wide range of colors.

Had this when DS wouldn't get enough hind milk. Id keep him on one side longer, maybe try for a second let down if you can on one side before switching to the other.
