Hi ladies this is my incredibly short version of Liliana's birth.
This is my 2nd baby, my first was almost all natural but I caved in and got an epi at what I thought was the very end (I had about 1-2 hours left w/my first) but god was I wrong. I missed ALL the good stuff and the pain and pushing!
Well this time I had an awesome midwife and the goal the entire time was a natural birth. And I did it!
So here is the mini version:
-10:30 p.m. water broke (crazy feeling) no consistent contractions before this except for the night before.
-Labored at home with contractions til 2:30 a.m. about every 3 min apart
-3:00 a.m. at triage at the hospital I was only 4 cm dilated and DISTRAUGHT since I thought I was closer.
-4:00 a.m. checked into the alternative birthing room at the hospital and the midwife joined us she was confident I would progress quickly and thankfully she was right.
-4:30-5:00 a.m. labored in the shower and contractions progressed to the point of having to bear down and push (also the point where I thought I was sure the contractions would kill me from the pain. I never "felt" these contractions since I had gotten the epi by then w/my 1st).
-5:00-5:25 a.m. we moved from the shower to this little stool thing to push on like a mini toilet. It was awesome to push on this little thing. And let me tell you did I PUSH. I didn't think I could do it, in fact I told my midwife I could NOT push a baby out. I also screamed like I was a wild amazon woman being chased through a jungle by a leopard. My DH said he couldn't believe I screamed so loud. Anyway the midwife continued calmly encouraging me and reinforcing that I COULD do it and that when I pushed I would be closer to having a baby. I was also advised to hold my air in instead of screaming bloody murder and it would help in the pushing and obviously it did.
-5:25 a.m. out came Liliana! And let me tell you ladies it was the most amazing feeling to push out the baby after laboring w/out pain meds. It is the world's most satisfying feeling hands down.
Recovery has been ridiculously amazing, I feel bad even writing this but I didn't tear and it's not even hurting to pee. I do not feel like I just gave birth down there, except of course I am having cramping from my uterus contracting. But my bleeding has practically stopped and it has only been 2 days. I am obviously having some kind of abnormally awesome recovery but thank god for that because I also have to chase around my toddler. Although my husband has a few days off and is being awesome.
Good luck to all the remaining January mamas! and congrats to the rest. I will write a longer birth story later
Liliana: 8 lbs 8 oz, 20" long born on 1/24/12.
