TTC after 35

Devastated about my furbaby

My cat Murphy has been missing since Tuesday night. We have been very worried as even though he wanders off occasionally, he has never been gone for more than 24 hours and he always comes back.  We have been out looking for him in the neighborhood the last 2 nights and I decided to call animal control this morning.  The woman there told me that they picked up a black and white cat up the road from our house yesterday, he had been hit by a car and was deceased.  I know it was him.  Devastated is the only word I can think of.  I am at work and crying on and off at my desk like a fool.

I just wish I had seen him there myself and could hold him one more time. I am too upset to even type how special he was to me.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

Re: Devastated about my furbaby

  • I'm so sorry for you loss, and that you have to go through this. I'm a fellow kitty mom, so I can relate! Years ago, one of ours was hit by a car in our neighborhood, and he (Alex), somehow crawled to our driveway. I still cry about that little guy.

Was there any way to absolutely confirm it was your sweet boy?  I hate to have false hope, but I'd want to know.

Thank you all. I have calmed down a bit but I have to function here.

I was so upset when i found out that I didn't ask them if they still have him, but I have called back repeatedly and there is something wrong with their phones!! I cannot get through and DH has been trying too. All we keep getting is an all circuits are busy message, even when i call the police station too. It has been about 2 hours now and i could only get through the one time. I sent them an email as well.

DH says that it might be worse for me if I see him but I want to make sure it was him.  I have never dealt with the death of a pet like this before, growing up we had fish and I had these two mice i used for a science project that lived for many years but I was not attached to them.

My heart is broken for my sweet baby who is affectionately named Murphy-goddammit because of all of the trouble he gets into. I have had him since he was about 3-4 weeks old, my best friend found him near her house and couldn't keep him because her husband is allergic to him. He was a very special cat and everyone's favorite.  He adopted me as his mama kneaded my head and sucked on my hair (I know it's gross) and had a bit of an obsession with me and I loved every single minute of it.

I was  home for two days this week and can't take off today, but I am so very grateful for the extra snuggle time I had with him on Monday and Tuesday this week. I appreciate all of your thoughts.

McIrish, I thought this morning of how much Riley and Murphy look alike and my heart broke again.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • DH just called and he got through to Animal Control. They are going to check and see if they still have him, and then he will go to confirm if it's Murphy. If it is I will probably go to see him as well.  I know it sounds a bit macabre, but I think I really want to see him one last time. If DH thinks his condtion would be too hard to see I may reconsider.

I am praying that it's not him.

I am so sorry!!!  :'(  My heart breaks for you... Then the extra frustration of not being able to get through the lines -- arrrrghhhh!!!  You must be beside yourself.

I am saying a prayer for peace for you and your sweet Murphy!!!!!

I am also praying it isn't him.  Does he have a collar or anything to identify him by so that you don't have to actually see him?  I think I'd need to seem him myself though to really believe. I am heartbroken for you.  Not a good month for our little tuxedo babies.   Big big hugs.

  • My husband just called me from the shelter. It's definitely Murphy and he is in very bad shape and that I really shouldn't see him so I am going to take his word for it and not see him.

He is going to pick Murphy up later today and we'll have him cremated through our vet's office and we'll have his ashes.  I'll feel much better if we have him with us at home.  I am a mess all over again.

Oh Honey, I am soooo sorry. You know I know the pain you are in right now. I hate that you have to be at work.  Getting Riley's ashes helped because I also felt like he needed to come home. It just sucks and no one can ease your pain.  I'm sure Riley welcomed Murphy by saying "my mommy knows your mommy" and they are playing together.

  • This is so sad. I am so so sorry for you. I also lost my beautiful sweet boy cat to being hit by a car about 2 years ago. It was a sad, sad experience and I was so mad at the person driving too fast to see him. I was crying for weeks and missed his presence in the house.

Just know that it gets better with time, and you will have the beautiful and cute memories of him to stay with you forever. It's good to take care of his ashes respectfully - that will help with the grieving process. I know how hard this is - I am sorry.

  • I'm sorry to hear this. Hugs.
  • Ladies, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers for Murphy today.  I really appreciate your support in this and everything else. I know several of you have been through this before, some more recently than others.  This is even more difficult than I imagined and I haven't even been home yet.

Poor DH didn't even finish the day at work today, he didn't feel right about waiting until the end of the day to take him to the vet and he wasn't getting anything done so he left and is now home and not doing very well.  I feel terrible that he had to see him like that.  Our only solace is  knowing what happened to him and that we can treat his remains with respect and give them a place of honor in our home.

On a complete side note from what has been my focus today, today is CD1 and I will most likely start injections tomorrow. I don't even care but obviously will keep following the plan.

Both DH and I didn't want to go home either after we put Riley down. We avoided it for several hours after leaving the vets.  I'm so sorry DH isn't doing well but know that he saved you some additional heartache having to go on your own.  Remember him running around and sucking on your hair :-)

We talked about funny stories about him to get through it. I also pulled out pictures. He is my screen saver on my computer at work and both laptops at home.  Sleep will be your friend.
