I'm lost. I'm 29 y.o. and no additional risks for chromosomal disorders.
What is the "normal" ultrasound that people get? I'm filling out paperwork and I can choose to have the following screenings:
1. 1st Trimester screening (11.4-13.9 weeks) An ultrasound and an optional finger stick blood test have the ability to detect 91% of babies with Down syndrome, 97% of babies with Trisomy 18 or 13, and 40% of babies with heart defects. This does not assess spinal cord defects.
2. 2nd Trimester maternal quad screening (15-20 weeks) This test measures chemicals in the mother's blood. It has the ability to detect 80% of babies with Down syndrome, 75% of babies with spinal cord problems, 60-70% of babies with Trisomy 18. It is not recommended if you are 35 or older and it is less accurate than the 1st trimester screen.
3. 2nd Trimester ultrasound screening (18-22 weeks) I'm so tired of typing, haha.
4. Amniocentesis (After 14 weeks)
