1st Trimester

I am really worried.

I am almost 5 weeks and I went to the ER last night because I was having some really sharp pain in my lower right tummy and I get there they do an ultrasound and tell me that they don't see anything in my uterus. But my pregnancy test still says i am pregnant and the one they did there does too. They drew my blood to get an hcg count to see how pregnant I was and the number was 974 which according to the chart says that my gestational age is less than 4 weeks. Could this mean that I am just not far enough along to see anything??? The 2 options the dr at the er gave me was that one and that is was tubal. but i am not bleeding or anything and the pain wasnt that bad. what do you think?

Re: I am really worried.

  • You cant see anything on transvaginal ultrasound until your hcg is around 2000.  There is a huge range of normals.  Hopefully your dr will do a follow up beta in 48 hrs, it is the doubling time that can help decide if it is a viable pregnancy.

  • What the ultrasound just regular over-the-pelvis, or was it a transvaginal? If it wasn't transvaginal, there's no way it would have picked it up, and if it was transvaginal, it's not guaranteed this early.

This.  Also, with an hcg below 1000, it's just about impossible for the embryo to be big enough to cause the pain that comes with an ectopic.  With my ectopic, the pain didn't start until I was about 6 weeks.

This. Also, a beta at 4 weeks (14 dpo) is supposed to be about 50, so you are WAYYYYY more than 4 weeks. Based on that, if it were to double every 48 hrs with '50' at 14 dpo, I would estimate you to be about 23 DPO (5w2d).

  • Thank you everyone. I feel much better now. If tomorrow morning will get here faster then I will be completely relieved.

this.  If you are 4 week or 6 weeks at 6 weeks is when the baby get s a HB.  I would wait it out and redo numbers in a few days and see if they double or gorw.  If the pain wasnt that bad- why did you go to the ER.?

    lolololo
  • If the pain was bad enough to make you go to the ER, then yes, there is a chance it's ectopic, but like PP said, you will just have to wait and see.
