Pregnant after a Loss

GD? Anemia?

So apparently I failed my 1-hour glucose test and I'm slightly anemic.  I was told to take an iron supplement and I go in tomorrow for the 3-hour glucose test.

I kind of want to prepare myself for the "worst" so if I happen to fail the 3-hour test, can anyone tell me what's next?  I believe I will have to change my diet.  Does anyone have a good website that shows what needs to change and what foods are good to eat etc etc?  Is there extra monitoring done?

What about if you were anemic, did the iron supplements help?  What did you do for the constipation?  Did you also have to go back periodically for bloodwork to check to see if you were improving?

Thanks!!

Re: GD? Anemia?

  • I can't help you with the GD but I have low iron too. When my dr first told me, its was 10.4 so she had me start 1 iron pill daily. I was retested a month later and was up to 10.8. But she said its very hard to get it back up to normal during pregnancy and that she was happy with it not dropping more. I'm now on 2 iron pills a day. I haven't had a problem with the constipation.

  • Slow release iron helps but takes 4 wks to really kick in if memory serves. I have had that problem with all pregnancies that have made it to 20 weeks, I tried diet changes for Nicholas but still needed the supplement in the end. No additional blood work that I can remember unless I was having dizzy spells. I don't think it goes away if pregnancy induced.

  • I can't help with the GD, but my recent bloodwork showed me as anemic also.  My OB had me start taking "Slow FE" 1x daily which is an over the counter iron supplement.  She said usually it doesn't take effect super quick, but when I had my blood drawn 2 weeks after I started it, she was impressed everything was back in line!
