  • I'm new to the local board.

DS born 12/2/2011. Favorite part of the day is the morning, when DS tends to be the most rested and smiley!

  • QOTW: my fav part of the day are the morning. DS always wakes up with a huge grin on his face. If he wakes up early, i'll bring him to bed with me and we'll cuddle while he eats. it's one of the only times of day when it's just the two of us up and we get quality time together.

Updates: DS is acting like he wants to crawl. he's started pulling himself around on his belly and has started getting up on his knees. i imagine it won't be too long until he takes off. i'm trying to enjoy these last few days/weeks of being able to put him down and come back and he's still there!

  • PHCaulfield - Welcome to the board, your DS is beautiful!!

QOTW - Although it often comes too early, the morning is my favorite time of the day.  DS is definitely a morning person.  He is so happy and smiley and just a barrel of fun.  I hate leaving for work when he and DH are playing in the bed in the morning.

Updates - DS is on a crib strike.  He goes down just fine for the night, but when he wakes up, he will not go back in his crib.  DH spent 2 hours the other night trying to get him back in his crib and I did the same thing the night before.  He will be fast asleep but as soon as we put him down he wakes up crying.  Most of the time whe I give up and lay him in our bed, he is out like a light.  What's the difference???  I don't know what to do but we can't continue to have him sleep in our bed.  It's killing us!  My body is so achy and sore from sleeping in the same position all night.  He was fine until he got sick 2 weeks ago and I didn't want him out of my sight so I let him sleep with us.  Stupid, stupid, stupid!  So, I don't know what to do.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.  I made the nightlight softer/dimmer and slept with a crib sheet of his last night.  I'll put that on his bed tonight and try a heating pad.  That's all I can think of - our bed smells like me and is warmer.  It's light in our room as well from the computer screen.  Could it be separation anxiety this early?  Last night he was asleep, I got up to go to the bathroom and before I even sat down he was awake and crying, like a bad dream/scary cry.  Once I came back I pull him close to me and he was fine.

Other than that, I seemed to have gotten the sickness this week but am getting over it so that's good.  First DH, then DS and now me.  Fun!  We have our 6 month well check tomorrow and I just remembered about shots.  Not so fun.  :-(

Lots of continued prayers for Caglebaby's Sarah.  Thinking of you guys every day!  I'm glad you and your DH got to go out and spend some time together the other night!

  • Welcome, PH! I added you to the list. :-)

Brooke, that suuucks. We are struggling through the same kind of thing--DS had RSV and he's been sick and every night is such a nightmare struggle to get him to sleep. I haven't brought him to our bed for your very reason, but man I've wanted to. I hope the mom-smell and heating pad do the trick for you.

QOTW: Evenings are my favorite. Mornings are too hectic trying to get both kiddos up and dressed and fed and out the door to school/work on time. Evenings, though, we have a solid hour to just roll around on the floor and play! I love hearing my kids laugh, love having them tackle/crawl on me, love seeing them play together.

Update: This last week has been awful. DS was diagnosed with RSV on Friday. We took him to Dell Children's on Sunday evening b/c he was just struggling too hard to breath. He hasn't been eating or sleeping. It's so sad to see your baby sick and not be able to help. He seems like he's slowwwwly feeling better. Last night he was only up from 11 p.m. - 2:30 a.m., but slept solid before and after that. Of course DH was out of town on a business trip all week, so my parents came down to help. I'm totally exhausted and spent on worrying about him. It's one of those times that I can't really imagine things ever being "easy" again, even though I know on a rational level they will be at some point. He's still on a bottle strike. We've pretty much given up. He lost some weight last week, but he's been sick for like three weeks now, so we are supposed to take him in for a weight check a week after he gets healthy to see what his weight does when he's not sick. Blah.

In fun news, though, he's starting to cruise!

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • welcome, Ph!

rssnlvr: stinks he still won't come around on the bottle. hope he gets well soon!

QOTW: mornings (even after a horrible night of sleep) are pretty awesome. DS is just so happy and giddy. i also like when we first get him home from daycare because he's so happy to see us. it's just too bad that we only have 20 minutes of quality time in the morning before we have to get ready to leave and only about 20 minutes in the evening before chores, cooking and prepping for the next day get in the way.

Update: now that i'm educated on the 4 month wakeful period, i'm just trying to cope. last night, he ate at 12:30 am and went down pretty easily. but from 2 to 3, he was WIRED. i tried nursing him to get him drowsy, but he was only half interested. i brought him into bed, but he just wants to grab at my hands and my hair. he's super congested too, so i'm squirting his nose hoping that maybe if he breathes better, he'll sleep better. at 3, i finally woke DH up and just handed the baby off to him. i don't know what happened between 3 and 6 am because i just put a pillow over my head and had DH deal with him. i came into work looking a wreck this morning, and my thyroid is going crazy. my manager told me to go home and take care of myself, so that's what i'm about to do.

i know many of you have worse sleeper than mine, and i would genuinely love to hear how you're handling bad nights of sleep to be functional the next day.

  • dd#3 Sarah 7-11-11 also dd1 4-25-08 dd2 12-31-09   Thanks for the t&p's. Fav part of the day is when Sarah is smiling.
  • QOTW: Well i love the morning because dd always wakes up happy but my absolute favorite part of the day is going into daycare and picking her up! no matter how bad my day was or what time it is it doesn't matter. she always has a smile for me. i love that she can recognize me and is always so happy to see me. my favorite though is when i go to pick her up and she's in this red and white buggy they push the babies around in. i don't know why but it is so cute! cuter then my stroller. one of these days i'm going to get a picture of her in it.

Updates: dd is doing great. she still has a perpetual runny nose that i expect to last through the whole winter. but we just had a great trip home to md where she saw lots of family. she's doing lots of moving and going from sitting to laying on her belly. and now at night i'll put her to bed on her back and she'll roll onto her side then onto her tummy then side then back all while turning around. she's all over the place at night sleeping and i think it's adorable!

  • It looks like I can finally move from the pregnancy check in group to the first year check in group.

My DD, Claire, was born on 1/1/12

QOTW:  Since I'm on maternity leave for a couple more weeks, my favorite part of the day is getting out of the house to run some sort of mundane errand.  DH and I learned very early on that it is important for me to do SOMETHING everyday.  It does wonders for my mental health.  Plus, DD likes the fresh air.

  • My favorite time of day is the morning when he wakes up smiling and asking for boobs (I swear it will be his first word.. right now its only the B sound).

Sparky is loving BLW. He especially loves bell peppers, roasted or fresh. Go figure. He still only grasps things with his last 3 fingers, keeping the pincers shut, which kinda worries me. He also doesn't roll, but we are working on that in PT. And PT is going well. His tilt is a lot better and he is getting stronger. I have to keep reminding myself of his adjusted age, but its hard when other kids are progressing and he's not that far yet. But HELLO SLEEP! He is finally able to put himself to sleep and only wakes up about 2 times to eat, sometimes 3 times. This is way better than the every 90 minute deal we had going on since he first got croup right before Thanksgiving. He doesn't nurse to sleep anymore which is kinda sad, but my supply is dwindling anyway, so if he can sleep longer on a bottle of formula, so be it. He still nurses during the night and in the morning. I want to quit pumping at work because I'm only getting enough for one bottle at daycare the next day, but I can't bring myself to do it. Maybe next month...

  • QOTW:  I have two favorites; in the morning and right before bed.  I love when we get her up in the morning and stretches and yawns and takes her time getting awake (just like her daddy!) and then she finally sees us and just smiles!  So sweet!  And at night when we go to her from to do our night time routine she is all smiley and playful.  I swear as soon as I set her in her crib she starts talking and playing.  Oh and I also like the cuddles I get before we put her to sleep.

Update:  How is my sweet girl 5 months already?? We have teeth!!  DH felt them on Friday, two days shy of 5 months.  It's her two bottom teeth that are coming in, they are so cute!

  • May I join?  I have DS - 3/12/07, DS - 10/20/08, and DD - 10/18/11

QOTW: What is your favorite part of the day?

I like our bedtime nursing session best.  My DD takes her time tanking up right before bed and I love cuddling with her and feeding her in the dark, quiet room.  It's the calmest part of my day.

Updates: Let us know what's going on with your LO!

I think we've gotten past our bottle strike, and the new daycare is working out really well.  DD has been a really fussy baby, but I think she's starting to come out of it.  We're getting some more smiles, some laughs, and a little less screaming.

  • Can you add me? DS Henry born 12/24/11. QOTW: whenever we are both sleeping...usually this is after dark sometime. I'm not doing well with the sleep deprivation and it is very hard taking care of DS1 in the day. When Henry is awake there is a good chance he is screaming or cluster feeding so sleeping is most desirable now.

  • QOTW: My favorite part of the day with DS is the morning since it's just the 2 of us during the work week, and Wednesday night when my husband is out, and I get to do bed time.

Updates: DS is doing great, a slight cold / runny nose but no EI this time. He is walking holding onto the furniture and stuff so I'm pretty sure he is going to be walking soon. He is feeding himself all the time and loves it, but he won't use his small hand as much as he should so we are going to start looking into OT for him.

It's hard to believe that in less then 2 months he will be a year old.

  • Welcome to all our new check-in peeps! I don't have time to add you all to the list this week, but you'll be there next week. Glad to have you and glad to hear all those cranky newborns are starting to come out of it and smile more. (and Kitty, hang in there!)
