suggestions for larger swaddle?

we have the summer infant swaddlers but one of our LOs is getting too big for it and he doesnt sleep well if he isn't swaddled...other than using blankets (I like the velcro) any other ideas or swaddlers out there for bigger babies you know of? TIA

  • Not sure how big LO is or what size you are using but I know when I bought some a few weeks  ago at BRU I bought 2 sizes.  They had newborn med and large.

  • My friend had twins that could only sleep when swaddled - as they got bigger they were able to wiggle out of the Summer swaddles.  She came up with an ingenious way to keep them swaddled.  I like to call it Sonia's StraightJacket.

Take a receiving blanket and fold it in half to a triangle - place it point down and lay the baby's shoulders just under the long folded edge.  Tuck each corner under the baby's body after wrapping it over the arm.  Kind of like a bolero wrap - the baby's weight holds the corners in place and their arm next to their body.  After you've wrapped them with that you can swaddle them in another blanket.  They won't get their arms free and will be nice and snug.

Your friend didn't invent that - it's called the escape-proof swaddle.  And it's  not exactly safe.

We use the Halo sleep-sacks with swaddle in the "small" size which still fits up to something like 6 months.

  • I used the Halo swaddle blankets, and just had to buy the next size up for DD.  She was in the newborn size and now is in the small size.  I love the halo blankets!

  • I just ordered a Woombie and it is fantastic!  They make them for larger babies too.  Love the zipper on them.

This. They are 40"x40". They are also very thin. I couldn't use the fleece swaddlers b/c my DD would overheat and sweat.
