Cause for concern?

DS slept through the night last night (normally wakes to eat once) and after nursing this morning he projectile vomited everywhere.  He seemed fine afterwards but a little while later he wanted to nurse again and the same thing happened.  It has now happened 3 times since he woke up this morning at 6:30.  He seems to be playing like normal, maybe laying around a little more than usual, and he keeps getting the hicups.  At what point should I call his pedi?

Re: Cause for concern?

  • Sounds like he caught a little bug.

I would just let it run it's course. I also wouldn't call the pedi unless he gets a fever Tylenol won't take down, gets really lethargic or you think he's dehydrated. There's not much the dr. can do about it anyways.

  • PP is probably right, there isn't much the pedi can do. But, I would call the nurse advice line to ask what you can do, just for peace of mind.

  • My DD just had the stomach flu and she was happy as a clam the entire time.  (I know it was stomach flu because my older DS had it as well).  I just continued to nurse her for as much as she wanted to help keep her as hydrated was possible.

Definitely call if you think he is getting dehydrated or if it last past 2-3 days.

  • i'll add this to pp: were you engorged at all? did LO get too much foremilk? My DS NEVER STTN, but when he did a fluke 7 hr one time I think he got too much foremilk because i was engorged big time and he threw it up (he also never spits up) but was otherwise happy.
