Thoughts on sibling name concerns...

When I was pregnant with our first child, we were Team Green, and came up with a boy and a girl name that we loved. We ended up having a boy who we named Andrew Henry. We are expecting #2 in early April (Team Green again) and keep coming back to the girls name we had picked out last time around - Anna. I'm concerned that Anna and Andrew are too similar for siblings (ironically something I never really noticed when we picked the two names originally!) At the same time, I think they sound pretty cute together...what do you think?

We have a few other names we're considering, but Anna is the one we both love most. Which name would you pick for a girl to go with Andrew?

I love matching sibling names. Anna and Andrew are cute together and both great names. My children have similar names and my brother and I are Jessica and Jordan. Some may shake their heads at the matching names for sibsets, but so? I would pick Anna or Alison. Good luck!

I know a sibset with an Andrew and an Anna which is a little matchy imo. But then they had a William, Paul & Joe, Rachel, and a Catherine!

Because I rarely see my name as an option, I'm going to vote for Andrew and Heather to give you a subtle Scottish themed sibset.

I think Anna & Andrew are totally fine (and cute!) together. But if it is really bothering you, what about using Hannah instead? Sounds basically the same, but it doesn't look at all matchy.

I love Anna, and matchy sibling names (generally) don't bother me - maybe because my brother's and my names are pretty matchy.

I like Anna much more than your other choices. Alison is the second runner-up.

I have two cousins (that are siblings) Andrew and Lianna, that might make the matchyness less obvious and you could still call her Anna.

I am glad that you posted this! We were Team Green the first time around, and picked Lydia for a girl and Lucas for a boy. We had a girl and now I am 34 weeks with LO 2 ( again Team Green) but I am almost certain it is a boy. Both DH and I are still in love with Luke for a DS, so after a lot of going back and forth about it being "too matchy", we are just going with it because we love it and who cares what others think!

I don't think it's too matchy. Anna and Andrew are great! Do you call him Andrew, Andy or Drew? I could see Annie and Andy being kind of confusing so could Ally and I'm not a fan of Lisa or Heather. In the end, I think Anna is prettier than Allison.

I know how you feel - we named our first Anthony and now that we're pregnant again I keep coming back to the name Ansley.

I feel like they are too similar.

As for Anna and Andrew - i think they sound cute together, but they are definitely similar.

Just have to weigh that out for yourself and see if you can live with it or if it will bother you ??

To me they are too matchy. I like pp's suggestion of Hannah. Not really a fan of your name list but I think I'd choose Heather.

Thanks everyone! Anna and Alison are my top two choices. My DH like Anna, Lisa, or Heather. If we can agree on Alison, that seems like the best option because I still struggle with the matchiness of Anna and Andrew. If we can't agree on Alison, we'll have to decide - settle on name or have matchy names that we love. Such a tough choice!
