How to freshen carpet?

I have an area rug that is starting to smell of dog and baby puke (not cool).  I have vaccuumed it and shampoo'd a couple times, but I'm wondering if there are any good ideas on how to "freshen up" the carpet a bit.

Thanks!

Re: How to freshen carpet?

  • I used baking soda with a little bit of essential oil on our carpet.  The cats kept knocking over my nursing water and it would stay damp for so long that it started to smell nasty.  Baking soda worked really well.  I also used some vinegar/water beforehand to help.  Good luck!

  • since it's an area rug i'd wash it (even at a laundry mat if you need a bigger washer) or have it dry cleaned.

periodically i use baking soda w/ some eo to freshen our carpet.  i did it this weekend w/ cinnamon eo and it smelled like the holidays.  yum!

  • ok, thanks gals!  i have soda and TTO and grapefruit seed oil, maybe I'll try it!  Do you just sprinkle it on and then vac it up a bit?

  • I sprinkle some CC (Diaper) and vaccum it up!

yup.  mix your eo & baking soda in a bowl or shaky container first and then sprinkle on carpet.  let it sit as long as you can, overnight is great.  then vacuum up.

  • Be careful though because any powder can wreak havoc on your vacuum motor and easily burns them out.
