DH and I will be following the Jewish tradition of using initials of a deceased relative because it's a social none to name after people who are alive. His grandparents were Leonard and Gertrude and there's no way in the world we would give our children those names, even as a MN.
Will your child be named after someone in either your or your DH's family?
Re: Another name question: are you naming your LO after anyone?
Yes.
If it is a girl, we'll name her Grace Lucile. Grace is my great grandmother's name, my aunt's middle name, and my sister's middle name. Lucile is his great grandmother's name, his grandmother's middle name, and his mother's middle name.
If it is a boy, we'll name him Michael Albert. Mike is my husband's dad's legal name, so it's only kind of after my father-in-law. Albert is after my grandfather with whom I was very close until his death shortly after my husband and I were married.
We probably won't follow the naming after relatives thing if we have two boys or two girls.
We are:
Boy: Declan Brendan (Brendan is a form of my DH's name and that is the closest he would get to a Junior)
or: Colin Anthony (Anthony is DH's father who is terminally ill)
Girl: If she has black hair: Keira Belle (Belle is for DH's grandmother who's name was Maybelle and that was just not happening)
If she has blonde hair: Madelene Anne (Madelene is my maternal grandmothers name; Anne is my fraternal grandmothers middle name and my mom's middle name- I always wanted a little girl name Madelene Kathryn but determined it was to much of a mouth full)

Jack just happened to be DH's great grandfather's name on his dad's side.
Charlie, our top name for this LO, is DH's great grandfather's name on his mom's side.
I didn't know it, I just liked the names.

Our first daughter will be Paula Jean. My mom's name was Paula June, and she died in July of 1996. We were going to go with that but Jean is MIL's middle name, so we thought it fit nicely and would honor both moms. DD will get my mom's name as a first name though since my mom will never meet her.
Our first son will be Julian James. James is my dad's name, and Julian is a name we love plus it's the name of an obscure musician we admire.

We will be naming after family, right now we are struggling with a MN if we have a boy.
DS is Sydney Elwood, he is the 4th Sydney on my DH's side, Elwood was my step-grandfather.
If we have a girl it will be Madeleine Johanna Lou, Madeleine was my great-grandmother on my dad's side, Johanna is my Oma's name (mom's side) and Lou was my MIL's middle name, who has passed away.
If we have another boy it will be Marshall, which is my FIL's middle name, but we haven't come up with a middle name and feel that it should be a family name because all the rest of the names we have used/picked out are all family names and we don't want a second boy to feel like he isn't as important. I know that probably sounds ridiculous but I still think that.
If it's a boy, we are using his grandfather's middle name as the middle name - Cortland. It's an old family name and I think at one point may have been a last name. I just LOVE it because it's original and has a lot of history behind it.
For a girl, we are using my middle name Anne. It's also my mom's middle name and it was her grandmother's name. I want to carry on that tradition. I also would like to use Charlotte as the first name after my grandmother. It's in the running, but we have a lot of girl names we like.
DS: 11/1/2010 DD: 8/9/2012 #3: 4/2019
Our first is named for my dad. He died when I was pretty young and didn't have a son to carry on his name. So we decided to use his last name to honor him and carry on his name.
I am not sure what we are going to do with this one.

If it's a boy, the middle name will be Roy. I had an Uncle Roy who helped raised me and passed away in 2002.
If it's a girl, I think we'll use someone's name on my husband's side of the family.
We're going to pick the first name... which is going to be super hard for the both of us!
We named our DS after ourselves while continuing my dad and grandfather's tradition. My grandfather and father's name was/is Nicholas. I'm named after my dad, so Nicole. My DH wasn't thrilled with Nicholas so I suggested Cole and it stuck. So that's 4 generations of a version of the same name. His mn is my DH's first name.
This LO will have a family middle name but we haven't chosen yet. I'm leaning towards Katherine for my mom and sister if it's a girl.
we're using really old family names for first names (back about 100 ys or so on the family tree) but middle names will be more recent.
Boy MN: Andrew (DH's deceased uncle) William (My father's MN and he goes by Bill, DH uncle's name)
Girl MN: Evelyn (My dad's mom's name) Nicole (SIL's middle name)

Rainbow Born 8/22, so in love with our little girl!
If this child is a boy we will name his middle names after both of our deceased fathers. Igor and Eric. Most likely he will have the first name of Alexander.
If it is a girl, I like Evelyn after my great grandmother but he isnt sold.

If we have a girl her name will be either Eleanor Rosina or Eleanor Rose after my grandmother (who was Rosina). We are still completely in the dark on boy names, but middle name will be Robert after DH's grandfather. Both of us were very very close with our grandparents and we are excited to honor them in this way
