Check wanted to check-in and see how things are going with your DS and his dietary changes.  Hope it's going well.

Re: *Artslvr*

  • That's very sweet, thank you!

We haven't gotten very far yet, as he is still working with his OT on "hard munchables" so he is currently mastering the art of biting by eating things like graham crackers and bread sticks.

We have been given the green light to begin "soft cubes" which means avacado, cheese, boiled veggies, etc. I bought my first soy cheese at Trader Joes, it's a mozzarella (looks like the other flavors of soy cheese were in slice form, and we need cube form).  He tried it, but wasn't thrilled.  Probably not because it's soy cheese, more like because it's new.  We also tried boiled potato - same thing, not thrilled.  I'm waiting for the avacado I bought to ripen to try that.

So we haven't delved too far into the world of dairy free.  One more thing we tried was coconut milk yogurt, which again he tried, wasn't thrilled... but it's all about repeatedly introducing stuff at this point.

Again, thanks so much for asking!!  Smile

I've also been thinking about your son's allergies.  Where did you find soy cheese from TJs?  My daughter has a dairy allergy, and all of the soy cheeses I've found there contain milk protein as an ingredient... Do you know the name of the cheese you found?

Oh dear, well, it was the mozzarella and now I'm thinking that maybe I didn't read the label carefully enough.  Will check when I get home!!!!

  • Glad to hear that there is progress!  As with everything, usually the more exposed they are to certain foods, the more likely they are to eat them.  Both of my kids were anti white potato (except for fries) for a looong time.  Don't know if it was a texture or a taste issue, but neither one of them liked them.

Let us know about his progress once in a while!

  • The last time I checked (it's been a while), all of their soy cheeses had milk in them.  Which baffled my mind, because truly, who buys soy cheese who is OK with milk products?  :)  It certainly could have changed.

Would love to know if you found one!  Thanks!
