Twatley's post got me thinking. I remember some of my vacations as a kid, even though we didn't really do anything special exactly. Every other summer, until I moved to the US at 9, we went to visit my grandparents for a month in Pakistan. My parents would both come with us, with Dad staying for a week, Mom for two, and then the rest of the time it was just us kids (me and my cousins). We went crabbing, to the beach, the Karachi zoo, Funland, Playland, and to visit other family in that area, but mostly we hung around and had fun at my Dad's mom's place. I remember running out into the street to buy snowcones and kulfis from the street vendor push cart, and riding in rikshaws, and going shopping. When I was five, we were in Dubai for a week. I never left the Hyatt Regency we stayed at, and spent my time running up and down in the elevators and skating at the ice rink with my cousins. If my parents hadn't taken me, I would have never ice skated. If we didn't go to Karachi, I would have never rode (ridden?) a horse, an elephant, or a camel, or seen what was supposed to be a real sphinx. I would have not flown in an air plane either.
Anyway, I guess I am curious about whether any of you remember your childhood vacations, whether they were a couple of days long or a month or two.

Re: Tell me about your childhood vacations
Our biggest vacations were to Disneyworld, twice. I was 7 and 10. Living in Michigan, going to Florida to DW is pretty big deal! We were gone for about a week and a half, and we went in September so we got to take off school. We would go the park a few days, hang out at the hotel a little, and we also went to Daytona Beach for a couple days, and another time went to the Kennedy space center and got to see the space shuttle launch! We drove, which 24 hours one-way sounds like torture, but I don't remember anything bad about it. Plus we got to see, like the mountains in Tennessee, the red sand in Georgia, and stuff like that that we would have missed out on flying.
I also remember giong to Niagara Falls. The way I remember it, it was a rainy day and my dad just said, "Nothing else to do today, let's take a trip!" Now that I'm older an wiser, I realize that probably wasn't the case! But that was a fun trip too. I remember thinking, "Ok, we drive 8ish hours, look at the falls for a little bit, then drive back? I didn't realize there would be different things to do there. We also went to Cooperstown to the Baseball Hall of Fame during that trip.
We usually went camping or to Wisconsin Dells, soemtimes we went to Great America. Whatever it was, it was usually pretty close to home. I am an only child, so I usually got to bring one of my cousins or friends along, and we always had a blast.

We did North and South Dakota one year, Maryland and D.C. another, Wisconsin Dells 3 times and we did one big 2 week road trip to Ohio, Maryland, D.C., New York, Pennsylvania and Niagara Falls.
My parents were divorced and my dad lived in Oregon for a long time so we spent 3 summers out there.
