We have several packets from local agencies and many have informational questions about if we are currently pursuing infertility treatments. And one of the agencies states on their website that they do not accept any couples into their infant adoption programs who are still pursuing treatments.
Is this common?
Re: Question about applications
Yep - very common. It really is best for everyone. Infertility treatments are hard - physically and emotionally. To mix that with adoption is really, really hard. Then you have to think about the children involved. Many agencies (and kids) have been burned by folks who are matched and ready to adopt, only to find out that their IVF has worked and then back out of the adoption. It is a complicated mess, so most agencies, from my experience, ask you to finish with infertility treatments first.
As someone who went through IUIs and IVFs, I have to agree. I can't imagine doing IVF and adoption at the same time.
I completely understand the rule and that's what I was assuming.
Thanks for the response!
Just wanted to say that I clicked through to your blog, and I think you are me. Seriously - do you live in Dallas in my house? I, too, am an infertile living in Texas who is totally obsessed with my dog. Like crazy dog lady!
Good luck in your journey. We are just in the beginning stages of our adoption wait, but if I can be of any help, let me know.
After 5.5 years of loss, heartbreak, and empty arms, our dreams were fulfilled through the beautiful, selfless gift of adoption. We are amazingly blessed!

Ha! That's funny, I'm also in DFW.
Maybe we're triplets!! Except I have 3 dogs to be crazy about.
We should plan a G2G sometime.
I would be up for this
It depends on the agency. Ours wants people to focus on either adoption or IF treatments, because they feel that you should only be on one roller coaster at a time
But there are agencies out there that will let you pursue both.
