If you've had a VBAC...

My doctor had me in today for a confirmation appointment, so I was able to get through all the paperwork and question stuff. He is totally willing to let me try a VBAC (hooray!), but only if I go into labor on my own. Is there anyone here who had a c-section the first go around followed by a VBAC? Are you glad you did? Would you have preferred another CS after the fact? I was so surprised he said yes. I'm in the 'advanced maternal age' group, so just assumed he would tell me it would be a repeat CS, so now I've got to start doing my research.

TIA

Re: If you've had a VBAC...

  • I haven't had my appointment yet but my dr. told me last time she would let me try for a VBAC. I've been checking out the VBAC board and C/S board - this is a great question and can't wait to hear the responses.

  • I would really like to hear responses as well.  I'm considering it.  I worry that I'll try and then will end up needing a C-section anyway.  I hear that happening a lot.  However, I've always had this image in my mind of my baby being put on my chest as soon as he/she comes out.  So I think I'm going to try...

This is my biggest fear. I will pick my dr.'s brain a lot about this. I never labored last time so who knows!! Recovery for me svcked so bad with the c/s though so I think it would be better to VBAC - but the known is so much more comforting than the unknown, even if it's painful.
  • I had a c/s with my first due to her heartrate dropping super scary low on very mild contractions... so it was an emergency.

For my second I was 100% I was going to do a VBAC, until my last month and I was in so much back pain, I could hardly get out of bed.  So after discussing all of the pros and cons I did the c/s with my second.  It was an amazing c/s - it went so well!  I had learned lessons from my first c/s so my recovery was super quick too.

This one, I am pretty sure I will do a c/s....

You ladies know just as I do... all that matters is that you and the baby are healthy and safe... I have a twidge of jealousy for those who VBAC - I would like to know what that birth experience is like!  GOOD LUCK!
