August 2011 Moms

In an effort to be less of a dirty lurker ...

... and more of an active participant on this board, I thought I would do a re-intro of sorts. This is a followup to my post from yesterday and me agreeing with Tuna's comment - you get what you give (or something like that). So here goes ....

I am 35 (gulp) years old and an oncology nurse. I had my little girl 'E' August 15th (one of the 3 due dates I was given, which was cool). It took 14 months and 1 loss for us to meet our little girl and it was a long, hard journey. I was a reg on TTGP and 3T but when we got pg the 2nd time I kind of went into hiding. Scared to read about people losses. I was selfish in this way in retrospect. Rather than helping support these ladies from my experience, I tried to stay away from those posts. But now I enjoy 'meeting' moms with babes around 'E's age. I EBF so I'm in front of the laptop during our sessions. I find it hard to type one-handed (she's napping now) but will try to be a more active poster from now on.

Oh .. and I'm a Nutella addict. Best thing to put Nutella on? A spoon.

Anyone else want to do a 'better-late-than-never' intro?

  • Hello again! I'm so sorry for your loss, and I completely understand your wanting to hide out.  I'm glad you decided to get to know the board and hopefully you'll find that we're not a bunch of clique-y hors :)

I'm not sure how I feel about your love of Nutella. I know they say not to knock it until you try it...buuuut I'm knocking it, okay?

  • Nice to "meet" you and congrats on your LO.  I'm sorry you had such a hard journey, but so excited that you have a beautiful family to celebrate life with! :)

  • Any friend of Nutella is a friend of mine. And I agree 100% on the spoon. Although lately, I've been making nutella hot chocolate. (Just heat 1 cup of milk and 2Tbsp of Nutella on the stove.)

I don't think it's selfish to back away after a loss. Everyone needs time to recover. We're glad you're back.

If that TV channel is Foodtv or E! - I'll pick the TV :)

I'd go with Fox or HGTV.

  • Hi Red!

I also lurk way more than I participate.  No particular reason for it, I just don't tend to comment on posts when the same thing has already been said multiple times.

How is "E" sleeping now?  Is she making progress with soothing herself to sleep?

  • I recognize you from some other boards. Glad you finally got your LO after a long struggle. Welcome to the board!

I'm on a nutella strike. That stuff just isn't good for my waistline. I do, however, have a cookie problem. To each his own.

  • My name is Tricia and I am a pseudo dirty lurker myself.  I used to try to make an effort in posting while I was pregnant but then Logan gave us a very early arrival so I fell off the posting bandwagon.  I also had a hard time seeing all of the pregnant bellies and was a little jealous that I didnt get to be that pregnant.  I am over it now though  Smile

I usually dont post because I dont have any worthwhile to add because everyone here is so amazing that all the good advice has already been offered.  I will admit to also lurking on the preemie boards, the 6-9 month board, and the June 2011 moms board.  I havent really found a place where Logan and I "fit in" though so that is why I lurk

I lurk 6-9 too. I used to lurk the premie boards when I was pregnant and just after DS was born because its as close to a NICU board as I could find (I knew he was going to go straight to NICU).

I think even if you repeat somebody, just chime on in. I know repeat advice/suggestions always make me feel like somebody out there is in the same boat.

  • :-) Hi Red. It will be nice to 'see' you more. I, too, want to make more of an effort. I can't really get on at night but I know I need to comment more during the day.

I lurk on the preemie and post every once in a while.  I dont relate to some of the ladies because Logan (thank goodness) didnt have any health issues like some of the other babies on there and.  I chime in when potential preemie moms discuss Pre-E or look for info on what to expect from the baby at certain gestational ages.  Logan caught up so quick to his actual age so I lurk on 6-9 and on the June board because I can kind of compare him to babies his age.

I will definitely make more of an effort because in my opinion August 2011 is the best board.

I think I would rather have bubblegum pink walls forever, I hate driving.

  • Hello Hello!

I'm glad you (Red and Tricia and anyone else who will join in!) decided to come out of lurkdown (and kgilhoo, you need to start posting more oftern - just sayin') :)

And Red, I just want to say that learning to deal with a loss is NOT selfish at all. Everyone has their own coping mechanism. No one has the obligation to become a godmother of some sorts to others just because they went through a similar event.

    Also?

She is :::knock on wood::: sleeping much better. We did CIO (SleepSense program version) and for 3 nights it was H3LL for sure but the 4th night and every night since then she pretty much just drifts off to sleep. Wakes once or twice but just to eat and then back to bed. Naps are still hit or miss but I do put her down awake for them and 90% of the time she sleeps. But most times only for 30 min or so. Thanks for asking!

  • Hi Red!
Just so you know, when you do post...I like what you have to say. Even if you don't post often, I know who you are. : )

Even though I am a very active poster, I also lurk on other boards. Since I came from the TTGP board, I lurk over there and look at all the BFP posts! I admit, I am an chart-stalking addict...it's fun!
I also lurk on 3-6 but never say anything. I prefer this board much more because I "know" you all better. Smile

  • Yay!! (and welcome)  I wasn't a huge poster during my pregnancy and am finding it hard to stay current now with my workload, but I really do love these girls.  I have grown close to and actually met some of the August mamas.

The nice thing about this particular board is that even the people I don't "know" as well still show how much they care whenever I post a problem I am having.  I have felt very welcome here by everyone and I hope you end up with the same feeling.  It is NEVER too late to hop on in because I am sure we will never stop posting about our LO's even when they aren't so little any more.

Welcome to all you "lurkers" ;) and I look forward to seeing you around!
