TTC after 35

I never realized how many cousins I have until so many started getting pregnant.

(Reposted here because I accidentally posted on PG after 35)

Just found out last night that yet another cousin of mine is pregnant.

This cousin is 27, not married and has only been dating her boyfriend since the end of September. She found out she was pregant in early Nov. and told her immediate family after Thankgiving and finally told her grandmother, who she lives with, just after the New Year. I guess this week she told MY grandmother and my aunt and that it was ok for them to tell others. I had a long talk with her back in early September about what we are going through with TTC so she probably wanted someone else to tell me.

I would have been fine with her telling me, but I guess I understand her not wanting to break the news to me not knowing how I would react. My aunt called me last night to tell me and SHE was afraid I would be upset. As a matter of fact, I was off from work for the last 2 days and she waited to tell me until last night in case the news ruined my day. I told her the only pregnancy news that would ruin my day is if my stepdaughter called with this news.

I'm really not upset, it just makes me sigh. I'm happy for her, she is happy but obviously this was not planned. It's not like she is a teenager and hasn't graduated from high school. She's an adult, a teacher, she has a great support system and this is not a scandal. I'm sure her parents would prefer that she had been married first, but it's 2012, so it's hardly news that this is happening.

I think I am getting a little bit numb to these announcements lately.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • I think getting this news just pours salt in our wounds because it shows how easy it is for everyone but us.  I'm waiting for another pg annoucement since I've gotten 1 each week for the past 2 weeks...

ETA: 2 of my friends just sent me an email asking if I wanted to do lunch on Saturday. Both at 40 and not TTC(and know all my history). I just emailed them back asking if everyone would be drinking or if I needed to know something ahead of time.

Probably a good idea to do this. I really hope they both just wanted to see you and catch up, and not share any news with you. Hope you will update when you hear back from them.

Last night I went to dinner with a friend of mine and I was drinking Diet Coke. Since I usually have wine or beer with dinner when she and I go out I made a point of telling her I wasn't drinking soda because I'm pregnant. She said she figured I would have told her if I were pregnant and she wasn't suspecting anything...I was really trying to keep the bill down, my God it's expensive to take the train to NYC these days, and I can buy a 6 pack of beer for what one costs at a restaurant.

  • Both emailed back that they would definitely be drinking, LOL.

Irish- your Murphy looks just like my Riley did (at least in the sleeping picture).

LOL about the expense of the drinks. When DH and I went to Philly for the RE last month, DH was ordering Captain and coke at the Hyatt hotel bar like it was water. I yelled at him since it was a hotel bar and probably a fortune per drink.  When we first were dating, we went to NYC and went up to the Rainbow Room late night for a drink.  He had Captain and I had a glass of wine. The bill was like $50!  I told dH to enjoy it as that was the most expensive drink we ever had!

  • I have gotten numb to most of the announcements.  However, I am expecting SIL's announcement any time.  They announced at Thanksgiving that they were trying and told us at Christmas that they were planning to have a baby by January.  I am also sure that if I get to make my announcement first that she will be very unhappy.  DH's family has no idea that we are trying again.  I think that they just think that we don't want children.

  • I've been waiting for a good friend of mine to announce her second pregnancy any day now. I had lunch with her Sunday and she confirmed they won't start trying until May (after my IVF). I was kind of relieved until she revealed that they tried for 6 months last year with no luck. And then I felt like crap.

Although some people might not agree, they plan around her job. She is the Director of a large scale local event/festival so there are about 6 months out of the year she CANNOT be big and pregnant or have a tiny newborn.

Single Mother by Choice. Life didn't work out the way I planned so I did it on my own. I totally get this...When I first took this job in the summer of 2010 it was a couple of months after we first started TTC.  When I started interviewing in late May, I found out what the busy times are when it would not be good to be out on maternity leave like  August during training camp or April during the NFL draft and the time leading up to it.  I remember saying to DH "We can't get pregnant in June!" Ha, like it was up to me...

Last year I put off doing an IVF cycle during April when the doctor recommended it because it was during draft meetings. then I put off IVF because the lockout was ending and I couldn't be out right after that to do an egg retrieval and it would have been right smack in the middle of a terrible time to be out.

I am not doing that anymore. I am going to do what I have to do, when I have to and everyone will deal with it. Life will go on if I am not here and I will have to stop stressing about it.  It's a lot easier to say that after having a year and a half here.

So funny, lately that is what DH has been ordering when we go out to dinner, I'm not sure when this started. We always know when we have a Groupon the we have no prayer of only spending the amount of the groupon because our bar bill puts it over the top...we generally have 2 beers each, maybe the one not driving will have a 3rd, but when we get the bill we're always so shocked. Someday we will learn, or start finding BYO places to go to.

I have been meaning to tell you how much your Riley and my Murphy look alike since you posted your siggy pic.  He is a very special cat, DH says he is lucky Murphy isn't a man because he would be serious competition for him. Murphy is obsessed with me most of the time...he is missing right now, he went out last night and hasn't been back since so I'm a little worried about him, he usually comes back by 9 if he is outside.  My husband is going to try to work from home this afternoon in case he comes back during the day. He doesn't want him to get home and then wander off again when he can't get in.

See what great parents we would be if given the opportunity? Sigh...
