C-sections

Numb and Ice packs

I had an unplanned c-section 8 days ago. My incision is across my bikini line. I have considered myself lucky as only 1/3 of my incision bothers me.

So question one: Is your skin above and below your incision numb, like I can pinch the crap out of it and it still has that novacain puff lip I just got a tooth pulled feeling?
If not how long after your section did this feeling go away?

And question two: An ice pack on my incision when it hurts is fine right?

Sorry if this may come across as dumb to you or has been asked before.

TIA

Re: Numb and Ice packs

  • I hate to tell you this but I am 14 months PP and I am still a bit numb above my incision.  My doc told me that it is because they cut through my nerves and depending on how it heels will determine if I ever get full feeling back there.

  • I still have a numb scar!

They told me to use a heating pad for pain - something about heat helping heal.  I don't know about ice, but I doubt it could do damage.  You might check with your OB just in case.

  • The area around my scar has feeling again.  I think for me, the skin and nerves started to feel normal around 6 or 7 months.  I think it is different for everyone though.

I'm not sure about the ice either.

  • i used ice packs in the hospital and for the first 1-2 weeks i was at home.  doesn't do any harm...just helps to numb the area so you don't feel as much pain.

  • Almost 4 months and still numb.  That's normal.  At 8 days pc/s pain is normal too!  I never thought about using an icepack as I didn't want anything anywhere near my incision.  If you use one you definitely need to protect your skin by wrapping it in cloth.  I wouldn't use more than 15 min at a time either.
