South Florida Babies

Hi Girls

I have been lurking on the board for the last few days & I remember quite a few of you from when I use to be active on The Knot & The Nest. Though a lot has changed since those days. I have gotten divorced and have been in a relationship for the last year & after a lot of consideration we are trying to conceive. We have been trying for the last few months and after seeing my GYN yesterday he prescibed to me NEEVO DHA Prenatals. They are Super Expensive, just about $65.00. Have any of you ladies taken these and if so are you taking them or have taken them and do you think they are worth me spending the $65.00 a month.

TIA

Re: Hi Girls

  • I haven't heard of them but I just wanted to say HIIII and good luck :)

And I'm certainly not a doctor so I don't know what's best for you, but my RE told me just to take OTC prenatals.

  • Hi and good luck with your TTC journey! Like Eli said, I am also not a doctor and don't know what's best for you, but with both my pregnancies I have just taken OTC prenatals and my doctor said those were just as good. I take the regular Target brand (Up & Up) prenatals and then I also take Expecta, which is a DHA supplement (so it's two separate pills a day). Again, I could be totally wrong, but it sounds like the ones you're suggesting may just be regular prenatals with the DHA already added...so I would presume the only difference is that you get it all in one pill versus having to take two like I do. But for me that wouldn't justify the price. The Target prenatals come in a huge bottle with enough pills to last you the whole pregnancy...I forget how much they cost but for sure no more than $15.00.  And then the Expecta is a little more expensive - about $11 for a 30 day supply - but still seems more affordable than the prescription your doc gave you. Good luck!

  • I never took the prenatals my OB prescribed. I took Target prenatals and an extra Folic Acid. thats it.
  • Hey Jo!

First and foremost good luck! I know we spoke about the TTC thing in the past so I'm hoping the journey is an easy one for you. If not, well, I'm always here if you need anything. :)

Re: the prenatals. I always took the ones that wer Rx'd because they were the only ones that didn't mess up my stomach in one way or another. I took Prenexa. Originally I got a TON of it from my RE and then when I had to get them my self they were $25. Once my insurance changed it went up to $50. FOr the most part, they're all the same. If you need extra Folic Acid or the DHA you can just buy it separate. It's more pills to take a day but it's all the same.

  • JoJo,

I work with NeevoDHA.  Have you ever had a miscarriage or been diagnosed with the MTHFR mutation?

    Married to DH - 1996 DS - 13, DD - 11, DD - 9, DS - 4
  • Thank you girls... I actually went back to my GYN yesterday & after telling him the price of the NEEVO DHA he prescribed Vitafol-One w/ DHA plus gave me 2 months worth of sample boxes.

Justine for sure if i have any questions i will contact you. Hopefully this time around will be a success. MY GYN is working closely with me and this this time he is sending me to take every test possible. While I was at his office he drained my arm or blood & then sent me to get both a Pelvic ultrasound & a Transvaginal Ultrasound. He should have the results in next week. Depening on the blood work and the exams he may be putting me on Hormones.

Holly - I have not had any miscarriages nor have I been diagnosed w/ MTHFR mutation. Though from what I have researched online they are very good prenatals.

  • I did take RX prenatals with DHA, along with prescibed add'l folic acid.  They were pricey, but RE did give a lot of samples initially.
