My last name is Fowler (ugh, hate it!) so should I totally not consider any er ending names. I have been liking a lot of them but feeling like it sounds too funny. For example, Cooper Fowler. Thoughts?

Yes I have eliminated many many ER names - including my current favorite girl name, Harper ::tears:: I don't think it sounds right - too matchy unless you always called him first and middle name - Cooper John Fowler wouldn't be as bad but again you'd have to get everyone to call him Cooper John.
I agree with you. Cooper Fowler sounds off. Have you tried nymbler.com? You can put in names that you like (but don't work with Fowler) and it will recommend similar names. I'm not really sure what your style is, but here are some names that seem similar to Cooper (to me) and sound nice with Fowler:

My last name ends in -er as well and we sadly had to eliminate all -er choices. I loved a whole lot but they really sounded terrible with our last name.
I'm in a similar dilemma. Our last name is Paladino and my DH really wants an Italian boys name. Unfortunately, the only ones I like end in O, like Nico, Rocco, Angelo, Matteo ect. I just think that's way too much O going on! I don't think our LO will end up with an Italian name.
I have an -er last name. I don't think it's all that awful to use a first name that ends in the same sound. There are worse things you could do to your kid.
Just wanted to add that I feel your pain. We are having the hardest time choosing a name, and our last name is -er. All of my favorites seem to end in -er and they just don't sound right!
I think there are exceptions to the rule of the -er ending....I feel really lucky...my last name ends in -oid...I don't think there are any nice sounding names that end in -oid...but I could be wrong...

This is me too. Although I'm sure there are some exceptions. Good Luck!
