How many sitters do you have?

I'm talking about weekend sitters, for date night and the like. How many do you have on your speed dial (lol)? I have four, and they are all busy this Friday night!  Of course, it is last minute and all, but jeez!

One of DS's old teachers has offered to sit for us. I may give her a call. Which would now make five!

Re: How many sitters do you have?

  • I have 4 technically, but I HARDLY ever use them.  My parents usually sit for us on the weekends, which works out because it means we can do an overnight.

  • We only have 1(our nanny).  She's great, though.  She's only ever had a scheduling conflict once in the 1.5 years we've used her.  Otherwise, she's always accomodating to watch DD overtime for us.  Because she's already used to DD, her routine, our house, etc., we've been lazy about trying to find other sitters.
  • We primarily use my SIL and then use my parents as a backup. My sister and friend sometimes babysit but mostly volunteer to spend time with DS and to give us a date night.

  • we only have our nanny, but we have been thinking we should find another as a back up...

  • We have 2 regular sitters (both teach at daycare), 1 occasional (used to teach at daycare) and 1 emergency (a friend's sitter).  Our parents are occassional sitters as well - maybe once every two months.
  • Right now the official ones are DH's parents and my parents. They won't do overnights for a while yet, but they love helping out for date times and DH's job interviews. For longer days we split the daycare so they don't get too tired out. We have one friend who's a SAHM that can help in a pinch. But we really need to sort out a more reliable babysitting situation for longer periods or if we do plan an overnight down the road.

  • Just DH's parents.  They are always willing and able. If for some reason they couldn't do it, we'd go with SIL.  Nanny would be a last choice...obviously we like the free options better!

  • Just our parents.

I know a few of the daycare teachers sit for kids too and I keep that in the back of my mind, just in case.

  • We have about 4, 2 of them are neighbors (next door and across the street) that treat S like their own kid, 1 is a girl at our church in her 20's that really took to S and then my best friend. Everyone lives within 5 minutes of us so it's very convenient. We would use family, but none live here.

  • None. DH's parents would do it if I wanted to drive 1.5 hours to drop DD off to them. I feel bad asking my mom, even though she's offered and lives across the street, because she's always watching my sisters 2 boys.

  • We have a different situation, I think.  DH often works evenings/weekends.

For an evening, we could get DH's aunt to babysit, if needed (for free, at that!).  But we don't have any other sitters, unless grandparents are in town.

  • I'm having the same problem for this Saturday night. We have two regular sitters and both are busy on Saturday. I've also asked two of DD's teachers from daycare and two personal friends of mine. Everyone already has plans. Boo.

  • We have 2 main ones (curent daycare worker and our former daycare worker).  We have some friends that will take the kids for things once in a while and when we visit 'home' (2-3 hours away) the grandparents will watch 1 at a time if we ask and it is convenient for them.

  • Since our families live out of town we work around my BFF's schedule.  She's the only one besides family that has ever watched DS.  They are best buds though so it's fun for both of them :)

So, basically, we have one unless we go out while family is visiting.

  • What are these babysitters and date nights you speak of?

We haven't gone out together since DS2 was born. Prior to that, MIL/SFIL were our babysitters. We only went out every few months, so we didn't feel like we were overburdening them. However, we're to the point now where we need to line up at least a couple of good sitters. I'm dreading that process...enough that we'll probably not have a date night for quite some time!
