Removing newborn insert

Have you taken out the newborn insert on your carseat yet?  Is so, when?  DD still fits but also fits without it, so I am at a loss...  Any ideas?  I have a Graco SnugRide 35.

Re: Removing newborn insert

  • Chicco KeyFit 30 here, and we removed the insert when DS hit 10lbs.

  • We have the SnugRide 30.  I still have it in there b/c the instructions just say to take it out when you move up to the 3rd notch and we're not there yet.  However, his head is nearly out of that circle area.  I probably should just take it out.

  • We have a Chicco KeyFit. DS is only 10lbs 8ozs so he is still under the 12lb weight limit. I go by "whenever LO is uncomfortable OR 12lbs, whichever comes 1st."
  • We removed ours a month ago, it was squishing babies head.

  • I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and it says to remove it when the baby reaches 11 lbs.  Don't take out the head support thing though... I made that mistake.  Just the part that supports their lower body.

  • Is it bad that I never even thought of taking the insert out? Embarrassed

  • I did but my husband doesn't like they way his head is tiltled when he falls asleep, so we have the head piece still in, but not the side pieces.

  • We took it out when he was about 8 weeks. It was getting to the point where it looked like it was changing the way he st in the seat, so we took it out.

  • We just took it out this weekend when DH noticed the DD looked really uncomfortable in her seat lately. I should have been on top of that sooner Tongue Tied

His head shouldn't slump if you have the seat installed at the correct angle. Just check it to make sure.

  • I have the Chico. It didn't even occur to me to remove it until I saw another post on this same topic.

The sad part is that LO had started crying in her car seat every time I put her in for about a week....until I removed the insert.  I felt like a horrible mom! But, she is once again happy as can be in the car.

  • mine was for up to 11lbs. But I never used it because the straps were too tight for LO to be buckled into. I've also moved the straps up twice already.

  • I never thought that there was a certain weight where you remove it.  I just thought today that I should remove it, but probably should have done so awhile ago.  Oops.

This.  Keeping headreast in until her head doesn't fit.
