LOL I keep seeing all the buying and selling post. We rent and so badly want to buy a place of our own, but on a youth ministers salary, I feel like that will never happen. Good luck to everyone. I am going to dream through your posts.
We are NOT. We bought our house 5 1/2 years ago with the intention of staying 5 years max. It looks like it will be another couple years at least, and I'm fine with that all the sudden. It's like once I realized I was staying, I've made it "home."
You know, have you looked into an FHA loan? You have to put very little down, and with interest rates so low, you could possibly get a mortgage cheaper than rent! That said, home ownership if a PITA, and I day dream often about selling everything and renting an apartment and just spending all my free time playing with babies. Er, I mean baby.
It will happen, just be patient! Just think.... the area is still growing so much, so many beautiful and affordable neighborhoods are being built. It gives you more time to be certain where you want to live, plus more time to save money.
We are going on 5.5 years of a "5 year house" too. We aren't going anywhere for quite a long while, but I still like to see what's out there and to dream. This is our second "project" house and we like doing stuff ourselves, but with the addition of kids, everything takes so much longer. I daydream about moving into a new, completely done-to-our-specifications house. Ah, the dream, to be able to look around and not see "incomplete project here, incomplete project there..."
Home ownership is not all that. I'd love to rent again. I miss our little apartment where I could just call the handy man to come fix things and yell if it wasn't done correctly.
We decided the other day that we hate moving so much we are going to die in our home. Nope, not selling.
probably the handful of us who are selling are just coming out of the woodwork so it seems like everyone is selling.
For our part, we live in the 1350 sq ft house i bought when I was single and working in this part of town. Now it's me, a messy husband and a messy toddler and grandma is here most days too. And my husband and I both work in the opposite side of town, so it made sense to move.
We're not selling I'm just dreaming. We had planned to move before Ben went to kindergarten, but it looks like we'll be in our house at least for 2 more years.

i'm with you there, LL! i haaaaate moving. we've been in our house going on 7 years, and while the closets and bathrooms and the kitchen are teeeny tiny, we are going to stick it out for another 4-5 years.
but i loved seeing all the posts yesterday about south and southwest neighborhoods because when we do decide to get a bigger home, i think we'll stay down here.

This. We will be trying to sell our condo sometime this year, but will be renting a house. For what we have saved as a down payment, we would only be paying in $50 a month or less in equity if we bought a house. I'd much rather rent and save more money for a better DP later one.
We're not selling. We bought at the way wrong time..we have a crappy interest rate and the same model house started selling for $40k less a year later. We are soo upside down that we are never going to be able to refi or sell..so we're making ourselves comfortable and hoping the neighborhood doesn't go to crap.
Not us. We are staying put - God willing - and hope to stay in this house for a long time. It's not huge, but it works for us, and I'm so thrilled with all of the renovations that we've done.
We better not be moving anytime soon! In the last 3.5 years, we have built a house in Houston (we unfortunately still own it), moved to Georgetown and renovated a house and sold it, and relocated to the DFW area and bought a house. For the first time, we have finally started to make our house a "home". I really hope we are done relocating and moving for a while.
we are. we've been in this house 5 years and never really intended to have 3 kids here i imagine wherever we move next will likely be our home for 10-20 years!!!
