I posted back on Wednesday that my water broke at 6am as I got out of my car at work. After I got back home, contractions started up and were 5 mins apart for an hour, but they weren't painful so I didn't figure it was necessary to go in. DH called my OB, updated her and she suggested I go in to get checked out.
We got to the hospital around 9am, were admitted immediately, and just hung out for a little while. I was still only 1cm at that point (same as my week 36-38 appts), so they started me on pitocin at 12:30pm. I labored with those contractions for almost three hours and since I was only 3cm, I decided on the epidural and received it shortly before 3:30pm.
I was laboring just fine until around 5pm when I could feel contractions like crazy. Around 5:30 the OB checked me and said I was at almost 10cm and should be ready to push in less than 30 mins. (Yes, I dilated SEVEN centimeters in two hours.)
OB got some last minute prep work done, came back around 6:15pm and I started pushing. Abigail Rose arrived at 6:51pm weighing 5lbs 13oz and was 19 inches long.
She is great at sleeping, but BFing had been... difficult. She's had trouble latching on (I guess I have fairly flat nipples), but now I am using a nipple shield and it's making a huge difference. HUGE. We are absolutely in love with her and can't believe she surprised us early.
Now for the pics!!
Her first day
Heading home with our little bundle of joy
Re: Abigail Rose and her birth story (PIP)
Congrats!
I've been using a nipple shield, they told me I have flat nipples too. Who knew? I wish I had bought some beforehand!
No joke. I was in tears yesterday because she couldn't latch. DH was not happy seeing me cry (hello crazy emotions!!!) and went to BRU at 9pm to get me some shields since I had read about them online. They are amazing and we have been feeding really well since then.
soooo happy for you guys! She's gorgeous, of course.
Congrats!
