Ok, so I'm being tested for PCOS and i'm so scared! I missed my period for 3 months and saw a doctor who didn't seem to think it was a big deal. So i scheduled for a second opinion at a new OBGYN for that and an appointment to talk to her about starting to try for a baby. I saw her today. My cycle came on it's own on so i missed 2 periods. She told me today she thought I may have PCOS and scheduled for me to have like 15 different blood tests and to come back for an ultrasound when i'm supposed to be ovulating. My husband and i were going to start trying in the next few months and i was just making sure everything was ok before hand, so this was a surprise! anyone with PCOS have any reassuring words?reasons why she thinks i have PCOS:overweight, history of borderline diabetes (when i was younger, lost weight since then), acne, extra body hair on my belly and face, and long cycle days.thanks so much guys.

I have PCOS, am overweight and have the long cycles, excess hair, and acne. My androgen levels were elevated, confirming the diagnosis. I guess my reassuring words are that I was able to conceive on my own after only a few cycles through carefully tracking my cycles, charting my BBT, checking cervical fluid and using OPKs. So, it doesn't necessarily mean you will have trouble conceiving, though the more you know your body/cycle, the better! And if you do have trouble - many PCOS women have success through fertility meds and treatments. We're TTC our 2nd and it's been 8 months so far, but I am trying to stay optimistic that it will happen without help.
I have PCOS -- physical symptoms of overweight (well I was until about 3 years ago), acne, and excess body hair. My bloodwork, however, is a little "odd," because none of it really confirmed PCOS, however the ultrasound of my ovaries definitely confirmed it -- there were cysts all over them and I was not ovulating on my own. We conceived our first LO after taking only one round of Femara.
As PP said, it will be very important to track your cycles with temp, CM, and OPKs. It is common in women with PCOS for your body to "gear up" to ovulate, but not actually ovulate; therefore you may get some near-positive OPKs, but they aren't true positives. My suggestion to you would be to use digital OPKs to confirm what you think might be a +OPK.

I have PCOS and have much of the same symptoms: overweight, excessive hair growth, insulin resistance (which led to me having Gestational Diabetes when pregnant with my son), long, anovulatory cycles, etc.
But, if you look at my siggy, you can see that it does happen! I had to go on metformin to regulate my cycles, but it was so worth it. I highly, highly recommend seeing an endocrinologist to treat PCOS if you are diagnosed with it. Ob/gyn's aren't usually all that versed in PCOS and treatment, especially since very few women have the same symptoms and to the same extent, etc.
I would keep up with the charting and invest in some cheap OPKs from Amazon, because you could very well end up using a lot of them!
