I know a bunch of people on the board have taken their LO's to classes, sports etc. I would really like to sign J up for something. Swim lessons would be great, but the timing isn't, since it's too late to sign up for actual classes and then I'll have a newborn in 7 weeks. So I was looking at Mommy and Me gymnastics but I wondered if anyone had any experience with those? I know every place will be different but I definitely want a place that keeps kids busy, like go go go, wear them out (see why I want to go?). I thought about one of those bouncy places but haven't checked any out in our area. Oh and what does the Mommy actually do during the M&Me classes? Just be there and closeby?
Binghamton girls-any ideas of places/centers that offer classes?
Re: Mommy and Me/Classes
We have dd in gymnastics. It's a 2 and 3 year old class, so the parent stays. It's about 1/3 boys and 1/4 dads there. The class starts off in a big circle for warm up - stretches and we go around in the circle jumping/skipping/tippy toes. My job during the sitting down part is to contain dd, although the older kids sit well next to their parent. Then we go around to stations and she does little activities that practice the foundation of skills. That she does well on so I just go with her and prompt her on what she is supposed to do. This part differs each week. Then it is free time - kids go on a trampoline or balance beam orfoam block pit or can keep doing the activities. I let dd lead to what she wants to do, I just make sure she takes turns and doesn't cut in front of other kids. Then it is circle time again where I have to hold her still. It definitely wears her out!
I think we are in our last session though for a while. Im not confident to do it with wearing ds yet on my own. And then it is summertime so we will do sea breeze and play outside, and then she starts preschool in September.
Where do u do gymnastics and what are you looking at for preschools? All in our area?
Gymnastics is Bright Raven - its on Pixley, between Tops and the rail road tracks. We have been doing it since September and love it. If I can feel comfortable with the moby I will do the next session too, but I'm not there yet. R would love it! I don't have one negative thing to say about it. The next session sign ups are right now I believe.
We signed dd up for a tues thurs 3 year old program that is 2.5 hours thru our church - pearcechurch.org. Dh had to get there at 5:30 am to sign up at 7am. It was last week, so I couldn't go, but it was crazy like black Friday for preschool sign up. They may still have an opening in the afternoon session, but he said they were already wait listing by the time he left for the morning session.
Our neighbor has their son in the preschool at Parkminster church right near you. They love it there, and we would have tried for that if she didn't get in at Pearce. It is thurs and fri mornings. Both church preschools are play based and incorporate basic church stuff like some songs crafts or a story. But the church stuff does not lead the class. It is mainly for the kids to learn to play together. Most of the stuff they learn thru play is stuff our kids already know - like colors, letters, counting.
The third I was looking at was thru snmop - it is montessori, so also mainly play based but even less teacher led. There were pros and cons to it. For me, the size of snmop makes me nervous her being there without dh or me, but I have seen the preschool kids and they certainly look to be well supervised.
I will send u fb message about all this, don't want to kill the original post! Lol
J I was just looking at Mommy & Me gymnastics classes in the area, too!
