I'm considering getting an IUD... the mirena. But, some of the possible side effects scare me.
Anyone had one or have friends that have the mirena? Thoughts on it?
I need to get back on some kind of BC... I was on the pill but haven't been on it since DH and I got married 5 years ago. Not thrilled to get back on the pill so I was looking into other options. TIA!
Re: Anyone have/had an IUD? Considering one...
I am actually getting mine this week. I wasn't keen on starting the pill again; it raised my blood pressure. Though I have charted before, I honestly don't want to deal with it or take a chance on getting pregnant at this point. I've done my research and decided it's the best thing for us right now.
You may want to call your insurance company to check on how much it will cost. Mine does cover most of the cost. Mirena is about $800 out of pocket at my doctor's practice (which, even if you did have to pay that, would be similar to the cost of many BC pills over 5 years).
Yikes, I was thinking I would get one after baby number two, but this is a definite "con" for me. What BC option did you switch to after the IUD?

I didn't have an IUD but I did have Implanon (implanted into your arm). I loved it while I had it - never a had a single side effect. However, I 100% feel like it has caused issues that lead to having to have fertility treatments. Good luck girl!
I have the Mirena, had it for almost 2 yrs now. No side effects what so ever. Dont have periods anymore, definitely a plus!
I honestly wouldn't go with one. I have had mine about 5 months. I never realized until recently alot of problems I've been having, were side effects from my mirena.
I have even seen post wheres it's been called 'the monster.' Just make sure you do the research and decide whether or not it's really something YOU want. But, you could be one of the lucky ones it works great for.
I've had my Mirena IUD for about 4 1/2 years now. Having it inserted was quick and easy - just a little bit of discomfort but nothing major - and I have loved the spontaneity it allows. I have read some of the stories from people who've had terrible side effects, but I've never experienced any of them. I haven't had a period the entire time, which has been really quite nice ;-) and no acne flare-ups, no spotting, no cramps. I can't believe how widely different everyone's experiences have been!
I'm planning to have it removed in a month or so, and then I want to begin charting using the Fertility Awareness Method. It's been so long since I had a completely natural menstrual cycle (I've been on some form of birth control since age 20) that I really have no idea what to expect. Will my cycle figure itself out quickly, or will it take a few months? Before birth control, I always used to have my period right around the full moon, which was kind of cool, and easy to predict!
