We are getting wood flooring installed. It will be wood downstairs living area, dining and office, tile in the kitchen, and then we are getting wood on the stairs, the upstairs living room, and the three bedrooms.
How do you feel about wood in the bedrooms?
I understand that we are going to have to get rugs. But, we have very big dogs and our carpet is disgusting. We could theoretically put new carpet in the bedrooms, but we like the idea of having wood that is easier to clean. (we aren't worried about the dogs on the wood. we have wood downstairs already and they haven't damaged it)
DH called his mom to tell her about it and she told him (several times) that she wouldn't put wood in the bedrooms.
WWBD?
Re: Wood floors in the bedrooms?
Do you like it in there because it's quieter for him? Or softer? Or what?
Softer and quieter. And it's warmer too. I always worry about his room being too cold at night. I think it's just more comforting overall. He likes to crawl around on the floor in the morning right when he wakes up, hides behind the glider, sits by the window, etc.
Ah. Yeah. Hmm.

depending on the house we buy we will likely put wood throughout downstairs and up the stairs and do carpet up. that is primarily a budget consideration right now. i've had wood in bedrooms before and i do prefer it for cleanliness but i prefer carpet for cozy.
if i could afford it i'd do wood through the upstairs hallways and playroom and just do carpet in the bedrooms for now.
We don't have a stitch of carpet in our entire house and I'm glad for it. We do have an area rug in the boys' room and one in the living room. I love how easy it is to clean everything right up and I can see the cat hair instead of it getting round into a carpet.
In our bedroom, on each side of the bed, I have a small rug so bare feet don't have to touch a cold floor for a second.
Oh, and in fact, when we looked for homes, I looked for houses that did not have any carpeting, so there's that.
We tore out all of the carpet and did wood throughout. It scared me when DD was learning to walk, but I love how easy it is to clean. It freaks me out to think about how dirty the old carpet and pad were compared to our current flooring - and that's a huge deal with allergies.
Same here, no carpet in our house at all aside from rugs. We even have HW in the kitchen. It isn't cold in the house, and it has helped my allergies so much. In the future baby room, I have a 5x8 rug in there, and we have an area rug in the LR also. In the master we just have small runners on the side of the bed that we use when its colder outside (we just keep them under the bed the rest of the year). If you guys want it, go for it! You won't regret it. If we move to houses in the future, I know we'll be ripping out carpet and replacing.
I.Hate.Carpet. HATE.
We only have carpet on our stairs, hallway, and two bedrooms (all upstairs, and I already put laminate in the baby's room before she was born cause a baby on carpet is ga-ross). I cannot WAIT to pull it up and replace it. Granted, we're in a cheap house and doing click and lock laminate that looks like wood, but anything beats carpet. It's so dirty and disgusting. Especially with dogs. We've got big dogs, too, and they have destroyed our carpet.
Something happened this morning that helped me make up my mind.
I let DD run around naked this morning to air out because she has diaper rash. She squatted and shat on the floor. The carpet floor.
There is no way I am going to make it through potty training with carpet.
Bring on the wood!
Uhm after that incident I'd go all wood too!
We have all wood floors and I love, love, love it. All future houses will have all wood floors. We just bought large area rugs for the living spaces and bedrooms to help soften it a bit (that and our wood floors are in not great shape because the previous owners put carpet down with glue-- idiots).

we had put wood in the living room, hallway and office a few years ago. but after years of dog puke and poop in each of the bedrooms at one point or another, we're ready to replace the carpet with wood as well. just so much cleaner.
