s/o to How many times is LO up at night

It's really interesting how many people said their LO was sleeping well for the first 2 months and then started waking up a lot more in the 3rd month.  We've experienced the same thing.

I wonder what it is? It can't be a month-long growth spurt... Maybe something in their development?  Anyone know when they might start sleeping better again?? :)

Re: s/o to How many times is LO up at night

  • LO slept all night from week 12 to work 14.  He now gets up at 4 every night and he's 18 weeks now.  His Dr is hoping that he will start sleeping better at night after his new medication starts working.  He has bad reflux so we have to feed him 4.5 oz (more often) instead of the 6 that he would like, but can't keep down.

  • Arghhh no idea what causes it but I so can't wait for him to STTN again. He's up once during the night....anywhere from 130am like last night to 430am. He is going to bed earlier at 830/9pm from 1030pm so that may have something to do with it & being hungry.

  • My LO has had the same pattern almost since we brought her home...in bed 8:30-9 up at 12:30 and again at 3:30 she eats 5oz both times and is off to sleep.  She will wake up at 6, take reflux meds/eat then back to sleep for sometimes 4 hours!! I would just love her to lose one of the 2...but no luck.

  • I know there's a 4 month wakeful, but as with everything I'm sure the "4 month" is just an estimate.

  • DS has been STTN since the beginning of the month.  He will wake up now and again, but is up for maybe 15 minutes.  This past week, though, he's wanted to eat around 3 am.  I'm wondering if this is a sign that he's going to be ready for baby food soon.  He has his 4 month checkup on Monday, so I will ask the ped.

  • DS began STTN somewhere in his 2nd month and this lasted for 2-3 weeks. Then he had a really bad week: vaccinations, going out of town for a late Christmas, and teething all within a few days of each other. For 1-2 weeks he was waking up once at night.

Now for the past couple of weeks he has been STTN again. I'm willing to guess that it was one of those factors or the combination of them together that interrupted his sleep habits.

One of the things that has really helped is a noisemaker (one by his crib that goes for 20min, and one few feet away from the crib that is always on) and using black-out curtains.

. This is what I think I am dealing with. LO slept great from day one. She was doing 7 to 7. She is now up every couple hours. Not fussy just awake and playful. It's been going on for weeks. And naps are awful too. Oh well. This too shall pass. Lol

I'm pretty sure that this trend is due to babies starting to become much more social and playful around this time frame.  I noticed once Lucy started to grab a lot and become much more interested in her toys that her sleeping started going downhill as well.

They are learning and going through so much developmentally around this age, and life is just too exciting for them to sleep!

  • Newborns sleep a lot. This is actually common. They are eating more and sleeping less. It will eventually even back out. FF babies also sleep better at night because they are taking a larger volume and it takes longer for their bodies to digest.

Yup. You may also notice they seem to be eating less more often, they are too busy to eat! They will probably start wiggling and screaming during diaper changes. That's why it's so important to keep it dark and quiet at night and to have something they associate with falling asleep aside from being nursed/rocked.
