Special Needs

Your opinions please re ADD

Hello All!  Let me start off by saying that I am not a parent who dismisses my childs needs or problems.  I have a delayed 3yo (with no diagnoses) who gets PT, OT, ST and is in a special ed pre-k.  I have a 6yo who gets ST in Kindy.  My oldest son's ST wrote me a note in a book we got back and forth on.  She wrote we are still working on such and such sounds and his conversations skills (interrupting).  I had called her to dig deeper and see what else was going on, if anything, and to mention what we were working on at home.  She sees him 2x a week for 30 min sessions.  She said he seems anxious with her...looks at the clock alot (yet can't tell time) and asks a lot if they are almost done.  He will sometimes ask he a question and then 10 min ask the same question again...such as is he missing lunch.  She said it's more of an attention behavior so I said like ADD.  She said perhaps.  Now mind you I do see the interrupting part at home but it has gotten better.  I decided to call his teacher who sees him everyday all day and compare it to his ST who sees him 1 hour.  His teacher said  he sits and does his work well, not hyperactive all in the class but she is working on not interrupting as well.  He likes to raise his hand and right away speak...he needs to learn to be recongnized but she said in no way shape or form does she see anything in relations to ADD.  Personally, we don't either.  His teacher said in a month if he has not mastered the not interrupting, thae she and I, along with my son will work on a plan that he can follow and be rewarded for.  What is your take?  Preferrably ADD moms.  Thank you so much.  PS.  He is also in Taekwondo and his instructor sees no ADD issues at all.  I don't either but maybe I'm blind to this!!

Re: Your opinions please re ADD

  • To clarify...we don't have behavioral issues with him (I mean we do in your thpical 6yo way), he does not stare off into space, he can find things, remember things. etc.  His teacher feels the ST is jumping the gun big time (they work together) and do plan to meet together as well....with me :)  If this were my 3yo...maybe....he is what makes me worry but not my 6 yo.
