weight gain

I am 11w4d and have only gained 1 pound. I am eating all the time. Just wondering how much you all have gained and if I should be worried. (side-note: ultrasound today showed healthy baby, normal fluid, etc.)

Re: weight gain

  • 12 w tomorrow and no gain. There is no real concern with no/minimal gain in first trimester if you eat well

  • I'm 1 day behind you and have lost 12 lbs. I'm not big either, I am 5'4 and weigh 130. My OB isn't concerned and we had an U/S today and the baby was actually measuring 2 days ahead!

  • I gained 2 or 3 lbs. I'm super constipated so that's probably a factor.

  • You're only supposed to gain 1-5 pounds during the first trimester. So no worries - you are on track!

  • I'm 11w2d and I've lost 22 pounds.  Had my u/s today and both babies are completely normal.

  • I've lost about 5 lbs and I'm not eating or drinking too much.  I've been having really bad m/s.  OB says all is good and it's not really a problem.
  • I am also 11wks4d and I am still down 6lbs.

With my first I lost 20lbs. As long as you can keep some stuff down and are taking your vitamins, I wouldn't worry about it too much!

  • I haven't gained any weight yet. I am happy fo that because with DS I gained 65 pounds. With the morning sickness this time and constant vigil on what calories I am taking in I am hoping this time I will gain a normal amount of weight!

Sounds pretty normal to me. You have lots of time to gain weight in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters!

  • I was up about 4lbs after the holidays, but most of that went away. I am probably 1lb up from my pre-preg weight.

  • I've gained 2-3 lbs, but I'm also eating horribly, and haven't exercised in forever. I'm okay with the gain, but just want to be more cognizant of taking in calories from the right sources and getting some exercise.

  • I'm 12wks and have lost 4lbs. It's pretty common to lose weight in the 1st Tri for a number of reasons. Your body is burning a lot of calories growing a baby!!

  • Oh my goodness. Everyone is losing! I am the opposite and freaking out that I'm gaining way too much. I was smallish to begin with (5'5", 120lbs) but I've packed on 9 lbs in the first 10 weeks. Some of that is just because of eating poorly due to holidays and food aversions. I guess I was lucky I didn't have morning sickness!

  • I'm down a couple pounds still, but I'm also still nursing DS which I think is making it hard to gain.  Last time I gained a lot quickly then slowed down, so I'm kind of happy to have a slow start.

  • I'm 11w 4 d too, I gained 3 pounds and then lost 2 so I've only gained 1 pound from my pre prego weight. As long as your eating when you're hungry and drinking water you should be fine. The baby will take what it needs so don't feel like you have to over eat or gain a lot of weight.

  • I'm down 2. Huge difference between this pregnancy and my last.  Last time by 9 weeks I was already up 10 lbs :s

  • I have gained about 9 pounds, but, was underweight to begin with (5'9, 115 - I have a very small frame). The DR assumed I would put on some needed weight pretty fast and she was right. Now I'm only a pound under where she wanted me to be originally :)

  • I am 12 weeks tomorrow and as of yesterday, gained 3 lbs (give or take a pound or so, since I'm alway constipated and bloated).  You're on track...I've heard 1-4 lbs in the first trimester.  Some people even lose, if they've been sick a lot.
  • This for me, too.  Except that I am up 6 lbs.  I know that it is all about the type and amount of food I have been eating and not because of baby, of course.

  • Almost 10wks and up 7.5lbs (and that was 2 days ago). I gained 10lbs in my 1st trimester with DS...gained 10lbs 2nd trimester and 13lbs 3rd trimester...so I think this is just how my body responds to preganncy...packs on pounds pretty evenly thruout the pregnancy. I am annoyed with the early weight gain, but it will (hopefully) balance out as the months go on.
