Binky options

Is there another shape binky out there besides the soothie, nuk, and mam?  I know there are tons of brands, but these are 3 drastically different shapes, is there another brands that is different too?  Soothie is straight out, Nuk is like angled up and flat on the bottom, mam is like a squished fat ball.

DS hates all three.  He makes a disgusted look and cries when I try to give it to him.  DD took any binky, but loved her nuk.  I didn't know how good I had it.  This kid loves to suck, but won't take these binkies.

Any other options before I tape one to his face and spank him?

  • I can't think of any that are different.  I think the Avent is similar to the Mam brand.

Maybe you can just keep offering all 3 options over and over until he decided to like one.  Or, maybe he'll be a binkyless baby and it will be a blessing in a year when you don't have to break him of it.

  • Ava loved the Avent ones, they are shaped differently than the nuk. Julia has the nuk and is just now starting to be able to keep it in. I may switch her to the Avent to see if it's easier for her to hang onto. BTW how's the mastitis?
  • We started with avent.. they look like they are shaped similar to mams.. but nat didn't like them much. We also tried tomee tipee but they were very big/long and oddly shaped tips. She hated them.. ultimately she took to the mams, but it took some time.

Boob still sore, but the fever is broken.  The fever is the worst part for me, I was just freezing and achey.  So now that that is broken, I feel a million times better.  DS isn't going back to sleep after night feedings very well, so I have ditched him with DH once a night these last 2 nights to get a few solid hours in before the next feeding.  I think that has helped a lot too.

How are you and Julia doing?  Sleeping and eating ok?

  • I just thought of a couple other options but I haven't tried them.. playtex makes the "binky" ones and then there are the gerber ones that are like small circles... and alsogumdrops... but I think they are pretty similar to soothies.

  • We tried every single brand and shape and he refused them forever, around 3-4 mos he started loving the NUK. I spent a fortune on pacis and bottles, boy just wanted Mommy.

  • Andrew never took one.  We tried ALL of them and he just did not like it.  Even once I switched form nursing to bottles (Nuk), he didn't want the Nuk pacifier.  So, at least we don't have to break him of it :), but it would have been really helpful for the first few months if he took one.

  • Have you tried natural latex?  The natural latex mam ones were what Tyler took, he would spit out the silicone ones.  Bri never took a paci.
  • Catherine likes the gumdrop ones and Emmy likes the ones we got from the hospital!

  • We had the same problem with Audrey.  Stella would suck on anything we gave her and she used Soothies and then we switched to the Tommee Tippee pacis.  We still can't get Audrey to take one so I have no advice but I wanted to let you know I feel your pain!

  • O has never been a fan of the pacifier, but I think everyone mentioned all the diff types... The only one O will ever entertain the idea of is the soothie, which he will only use if EXTREMELY tired - usually he just chews on it though.
