Anyone have experience with thrush?

LO is 1wk4d old and after I nursed him just now I noticed 2 white specs when he yawned on the roof of his mouth, and I noticed that his tongue is still milky white. When I took a burp cloth to try to wipe his tongue, only some of it went away!

Is this thrush? Should I be calling the doc before I get it too?

Use a wet washcloth in LO's mouth and see if the white stuff comes off. If so -- it's probably just milk. You might want to do that every once in a while anyway to keep his mouth clean and help prevent thrush. If you are using a paci don't forget to boil them for 20 minutes every day.

If he does have thrush your pedi will likely prescribe Nystatin for him. They usually have you just spray the inside of the mouth with the medicine using a doppler. I had to use a Q-Tip to swab his mouth to make it go away.

Believe it or not I was told to use Lotrimin on my nips... it worked

Daughter has it now made the mistake of thinking it was just milk buildup and turned out to be a bad case of thrush now she is on Nystatin drops. I'd go to the doctor to be sure.
