My pedi said that unless the baby has a milk allergy, she doesn't recommend switching formulas to a sensitive, soy, etc. She says that typically between 3-4 months, most of their digestive issues resolve themselves. Three tips that have helped us with gas - tummy time after he eats during the day, burping after each ounce, and stirring the formula with a spoon vs. gently shaking it (less bubbles when it's stirred).

My LO has something called pyloric spasms which according to the pedi means his tummy isn't emptying out fast enough (causing him to majorly barf) and he thought having a more digestible formula might help.
But he just barfed up most of the bottle of Alimentum and it's so freaking expensive. Sigh. Not convinced it's gonna help at all
What are you using now? A sensitive formula may be a better idea. It is already partially broke down to make it easier to digest.
Alimentum is hypo-allergenic. My DD is on it. She has reflux and a milk protein allergy. It has helped, but she is still not a 100% with the switch and meds.
It has not reduced her spit up and I wasn't expecting it to. The reason she spits up is mechanical, not food related. Until that sphincter strengthens she will continue to spit up.

Not to hijack this thread, but I just love your siggy pic; it makes me laugh everytime lol.

He was on Similac Sensitive before. The pedi said (after baby's u/s on his tummy today) that his stomach isn't emptying fast enough into the intenstines and that could be because the formula disagrees with him. He is not just spitting up, it's like a volcano, it's seriously the entire bottle.
Next step is to try meds and it looks like that's where we are headed because he's still throwing it up.
Alimentum did wonders for my daughter. She had terrible tummy issues with her previous formulas. Pedi recommended we switch and she does so much better. She still "spits up" but it is not the entire bottle like it used to be!! Good Luck!!
MrsBini - I typed my first post in a hurry and reread it; I hope it didn't sound critical against you/your pedi. I meant for it to be helpful and realized I may not have come across right.

I guess it just shows how different doctors can be. Our doctor recommended that we try a soy formula. My DS is very sensitive to the milk protein, but he's not allergic to the protein. Babies usually out grows an allergy/sensitivity between 6mo-18mo. OP, I understand about the expense of the specialty formulas which is why I'm BFing and just avoid all dairy. But it doesn't sound like that would help your situation out, sorry. I hope your LO gets better soon!
