Parenting after a Loss

When do you stop using the bathtub sling?

Forgive me if this is a stupid FTM question:

DD already seems to be outgrowing the sling in her tub, but my instinct thinks that she wouldn't be able to go into the tub itself until she can sit up on her own or at least hold her head up unassisted.

Help a clueless momma out!

  • We used it for a few months-but I think I'm kind of crazy. I used the infant tub until last month.

  • We never used it....you mean the mesh sling that attaches to the tub?  DS is still using the angled side of his tub, but we may need to move to something bigger soon.

  • I don't know what tub you have, but in ours, without the sling, the back was sloped so DD was able to kind of recline in it.  Once she was able to sit up on her own it became a PITA to bathe her in there.  I'm not comfortable with her in the "big girl" tub, so we use the Munchkin duck tub for now.

  • Yeah, the back is sloped... so maybe she'd be fine without it?? Im gonna try it tonight! Thanks ladies.

  • Never used one. Or an infant tub for that matter.

We had a Summer Infant reclining seat thing that we used in the regular tub until she could sit up on her own.

  • Not very long. I think we stopped once her umbilical cord stub came off and she could be fully immersed. DH did almost all of the baths so I am not 100% sure. We started using the adult tub around 8 months when she started to try to pull herself up in the baby tub.

  • We used the sling until a few weeks ago, probably should've done it sooner it was dipping so low lol but I wanted to wait and he can't Really sit up on his own but the way that the tub is inclined it holds him up so it's ok and it's reallycute seeing him sit in there and splash his feet around :)

  • With Ian for like a month. With Ollie we didn't use an infant tub at all. We got one of this mesh things at Walmart for like three dollars and an infant tub chair.

My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot.
  • We stopped at around 3 mos which is when I felt like she had good enough head and body control.  We tried it without for a few baths and she kept slumping from side to side and bumping her head on the side of the tub.

  • We are still using ours...I tried one day without and he would slump side to side( we have the blue first years one). This is a stupid question from a novice but if you keep them in the water dont they just sit in the soapy water or do you drain and refill while they are in it?? Don't flame me lol

We soap and wash and then empty the tub and refill and let her splash around a bit in the new water.
