Toddlers: 24 Months+

Stressed out pregnancy hormones and a toddler who won't sleep!!

Ok, my very pregnant hormones are getting the best of me....DS will NOt stay in bed at night. He goes to bed fine (sleeps in a full size bed) and doesn't try to escape. But he jets out of bed about 4 times during the night and then at 530 am (too early!!!). During the night, I just have to lay him down and sometimes turn his CD player on but then he goes to sleep...until the next wake up and putter patter to my room. I just can't take this!! I am trying to get as much sleep as I can before LO arrives and this is totally stressing me out. I have no idea what to do when the LO AND DS are BOTH up all night long....ugh. And I can't trust DH to put DS back in bed because he lays down with him and ends up falling asleep. I totally don't want DS getting used to one of us in his bed at night

Suggestions, encouragement??? Something to know we are not alone in this?!?!  We already have the OK to Wake clock which worked for about 2 days :(  help!!

  • No advice, just sympathy. I've been in your position before. We finally got DD1 to stay in her bed and is only allowed up to go potty but she's 3 mo older.  3 months ago she was waking up multiple times in the night and wouldn't stay in bed either.

Maybe after the baby is born you can reinforce baby v big boy. For example, big boys sleep in big beds and drink from big boy cups and get to watch Dora/Diego and play at the park.  Babies have to sleep in a crib and drink from a bottle. They're not allowed to watch TV to play at the park.  Do you want to be a baby or a big boy?  This worked for my DD.  I think she was afraid of never watching Dora again.

  • I feel your pain, my little toddler boy does the same. i dont get much sleep. Does your little one have a night light in his room? maybe its a faze that little toddlers go threw. If you tried something that works let me know. I will do the same. Take care!
  • DD does the same thing, but it's usually once a night, sometimes two.  All I have to do is go rock her for a minute and put her back into bed but it's still really annoying bc then I can't get back to sleep forever and I wake up tired.  I'm wondering if it's just a phase.  I have no suggestions just sympathy and dread for when baby #2 arrives in our home this May.
  • Totally know what you mean! My DD is up at least once a night and wants someone to lay with her till she falls asleep.  I basically just started refusing--I told her I will just sit with her on her bed for a few mins but then I go back to my room.  So now she knows not to call for me at night (her bedroom is upstairs while ours is on the first floor).  She will call for my DH b/c he is a sucker and will end up sleeping in there with her (smart girl!) lol! Honestly, I know its a bad habit but if he's willing to do it and has no problem with it then so be it.  Between work and pregnancy, I just can't do it so glad he wants to take that on. I am thinking eventually he will get tired of it and start laying down the law about her staying in her bed but he has yet to reach his breaking point!

  • Lock the door or put a child proof knob cover on the inside!

  • When did you start the transition of crib-to-bed?  Is it fairly new?

You are not alone in this, but remember this is only a phase that (hopefully) he will grow out of soon.

I was going to suggest this as well.

You also have my sympathies. DD1 was still in her crib while I was pregnant with DD2, but she wasn't STTN yet from the beginning and I had horrible all day sickness until I was 5 months along. Hang in there!
