OK, we are doing this now ...a little behind the game, but whateva. So we got down from 8oz to 6oz without any real issue, still only woke once. Did that for a week or so. Now we are going from 6oz to 4oz ...granted his has this damn cough that wakes him, but he's waking more now. ...I really really want him off formula - its freaking expensive ($29 or so a can) ...I'm cool with him just drinking WCM at his night time wakings, but I'd also love a full nights sleep.
Any ideas on how to help the 6oz to 4oz transition?
Re: Cutting out night time bottle
Uh, we just switched from formula to WCM around a year. We still do 6 oz and a nighttime bottle, so no help here. Have you tried just WCM? Or does he like/need the formula still?
I'm not worrying too much about it just yet though. We cut the mid-day bottles at 1 year, and just cut out the morning bottle a week ago. I want to be done by 15 months, so I have time.
During the day he only gets WCM, juice or water in a sippy. I haven't tried just the WCM at night. I have been adding WCM to the formula with his night time bottles.
I guess I could try it cold turkey, just stop the formula at night all together and see how it goes.

He will still get WCM at bedtime, its the middle of the night waking I'm trying to cut out ...but its difficult especially when the last few nights he's woken up a few times - stupid cough - so I guess I need to work on getting the cough to stop then finish tackling the middle of the night wakings.

I stopped night time feedings pretty much cold turkey. For a couple days, I did nurse her if I couldn't get her back to sleep by singing, but I would only nurse for a minute or two. After the first two days, I knew she wasn't hungry anymore, so I just gave her a bottle of water. She only drank a couple ounces at most and went back to sleep.
You could try diluting the bottles if you're worried about him being hungry. Just put two scoops in the 6 ounce bottle for a couple days, and then one scoop. Once he's drinking just water you can cut it out all together. I still go to Avery if she wakes up at night, but I don't feed her anymore. I usually can just give her a hug, say "night night" and put her back down. Since night weaning though, she rarely wakes up now (knock on wood).
I cut out the middle of the night feeding (BFing) just after DS's birthday. I went cold turkey b/c I started sleep training him, which involved not taking him out of the crib at all - just giving him a hug, laying him back down & patting him - at 5/10/15 min intervals whenever he woke up.
Even when he was sick for the past 3 weeks, I still did not feed him. I did break my rule & took him out & rocked him, though.
