What's your favorite book?

I've been taking advantage of all the downtime that BFing provides to get some reading in... But just finished a series of books and am not sure what to read next.

Any suggestions? I read all genres and would love to hear some favorites!

I'm an enormous Potter-head. If you haven't read the Harry Potter series...yeah. Read that.

I read Alan Alda's autobiography "Never Have Your Dog Stuffed". A lot of the things he talks about are LOL funny. (He was Dr Hawkeye Pierce on MASH). He has a sick sense of humour that matches mine and my husband's.

Nicholas Spark books are one of my guilty pleasures as well...never read a bad one.

There Is No Me Without You by Melissa Fay Greene. It's about AIDS orphans in Africa and it literally changed my life. It inspired me to go to Ethiopia and volunteer at an orphanage 4 years ago and that's how I met DH!

Life of Pi - one of my favourites. It's a great bus book because it has really short chapters. The ending really makes this book.

Memoirs of a Geshia - great book

The Bell Jar - kind of depressing but still a good read.

One of my favorite authors -Elizabeth Lowell. I just read her new book, Death Echo-really good. She writes....suspense with a splash of romance? She's really smart, her books are really intricate with lots of elements and the characters have a lot of layers.

I read a lot of chick-lit by Jane Green, Emily Giffin, Beth Harbison, Jenifer Weiner, etc.

I also read a lot of stories about pets and animals. Ex: Ella In Europe, Homer's Odyssey, The Dogs Who Found Me, etc

Water For Elephants, The Dogs of Babel and The Art of Racing in the Rain are my favorites.

I also like anything by Nicholas Sparks, Emily Giffin, Sarah Strohmeyer and Anne Brashares. I like a few James Patterson books, but they aren't crime related; Sundays at Tiffany's, Sam's Letters to Jennifer and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas.

I've started the Sookie Stackhouse series but haven't finished yet. I liked the Twilight series and her other book The Host was really good.

The Mortal Instruments Series as well as the prequel to that, the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. They are teen fantasy, but very catchy. Also the His Dark Materials trilogy from Philip Pullman. It's considered a children's book, but it's definitely not one. The series that includes the Other Boleyn Girl is a pretty good one as well. And the PP's have recommended the Hunger Games, which I agree is an excellent series.

If you liked the movie Fight Club, I would recommend checking out Chuck Palahniuk who penned the Fight Club novel. If you like science fiction at all, I would recommend checking out Michael Crichton (he wrote Jurassic Park).

These are some old school classics that I love:

The Agony and the Estacy (story of Michaelangelo's life...I've read it a couple times)

The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged (Ann Ranyd is an amazing author)

The Other Boylen Girl and all the other ones in the series

Stones from the River and Winter Garden (I love historical fiction where I learn something)

I just stared "Heaven is for Real" last night and I can't put it down. "The Shack" is also a religious theme book that I loved (even though the story was sad).

I don't ever pick favorites. I'm reading Game of Thrones right now and it sounds like you've already tackled that. If you haven't read Hunger Games, definitely read that. Seriously.

I'm a sci fi nerd and love the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. It's my all time favorite and there's 20 books so far. WARNING: It does get racey starting around book 10.

My all-time favorite book is The Sound and the Fury, by William Faulkner, but it is not exactly light reading...

I just finished a fabulous book -- The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green. It's not about a comforting subject matter (teenagers with terminal cancer), but it is happy and sad in all the right ways. I'm so glad I read it. Green is one of my favorite authors.

I listened to Tina Fey's Bossypants on audiobook in November and it was the perfect pick-me-up during those first weeks of BFing. In the same vein, I think I'm going to read Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? pretty soon, maybe also on audiobook.

I might be the only person that didn't like "Water for Elephants" I kept waiting for it to get good...

I also like chic lit - Jennifer Weiner, and Cecila A'hearn. Have you read PS I Love You? Oh God, you'll cry for a week and never want to leave your husband's side.

19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult was really good too.

The Favorite Wife: Escape from Polygamy by Susan Ray Schmidt - I could not put this one down.

All of David Sedaris's books are awesome. Tina Fey's book BossyPants was really funny. Favorite book of all time is The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.

discovery of witches by deborah harkness - read on my honeymoon and loved, first in a trilogy. also the passage by justin cronin is another first in a trilogy that i liked.

cryptonomicon by neal stephenson is a favorite. trying to get through his trilogy now and stalling, but LOVED cryptonomicon. it's long but a good read.

old fave is secret history by donna tartt. if you've never read prayer for owen meany that's a good one.

i'll echo those reccing the hunger games, worth checking out.

if you decide on david sedaris i highly recommend his short story santaland diaries, not sure i've ever laughed so hard at the gym in my life.

mindy kaling's book was hilarious.

i love anything by michael lewis. he's prob the most readable non fiction author, and i've loved everything from moneyball, big short, blind side, etc. currently reading boomerang and enjoying.
