Which convertible car seat?

LO has been in the chicco infant carseat, keyfit 22 (22lbs). the trade in event is about to start at BRU. im not sure we will make it to the end of aug for the next event in this seat. SIL gave an OLD seat we can trade in. So any advice on safest seat for the $? I dont mind spending the $300 for the britax if thats the best choice.

edit: im looking for one I can recline, adjust the straps, and adjust strap height all while its installed.

Re: Which convertible car seat?

  • I LOVE my Britax Boluvard.  It is easy to use and install.

We have a Evenflo Triumph for DH's car and I find it bulky and it is not as easy for me to get her in and out of.

  • Whichever seat you choose, I'd get one that has the adjustable harness and doesn't require rethreading.  Makes life a little easier!

  • For DD we have both the Britax Marathon and Britax Advocate.  The Advocate is pretty big but we got a really great deal on it so I couldn't pass it up!

I've heard nothing but great things about the Britax brand so for DS we'll probably get another one.

This!  We have the Evenflo Triumph 65 and we have never had to take it out of either car because the harness is adjustable.  A lot of seats require that you take the whole dang thing out of the car to adjust.

We also have the Graco Myride 65 in my parent's car (got it on sale for $100 at Target a while back).  That thing is huge and won't fit rear facing in a lot of cars.  One plus is that the cup holder is a lot nicer than the one in the evenflo.

  • I'm going to hijack this a little so I hope you don't mind but...

Do you buy 2 carseats (1 for each car) or do you just buy 1 and move it from car to car as needed?

When it's just me and DD we obviously take my car but if it's me, DH and the baby we always take DH's truck so we're probably about 50/50 on which car we use... Don't know if it would be better to have 2 or if it is pretty easy to install/uninstall as needed.

You don't want to be moving them around too much.  Kind of a PITA.  We have 3 - 1 in my car, 1 in DH's and 1 in my parent's

  • we will probably get DH a cheaper seat thats not asbig. My mom got the First Years True fit c670. you can adjust the height of the harness while its installed however because of the rebound bar, you cant recline the seat while its installed and its very difficult to tigten the straps.

  • We like the Safety 1st Alpha Omega 3n1.  DS has one in my car, and one in the nanny's car.  We have one so far for DD, and will buy another one for her when she gets old enough to need it.  It goes for $99 at BBB and Sam's.  In fact, Sam's had it on sale this weekend for $79 and I almost got it, but it wasn't in the budget.  Sad

  • I hated my infant seat...well taking it in and out of car...so last week I got a convertible car seat....I got safety 1st complete air 65....it was easy to install, but it just fits in my car....hubby can't ride in passenger seat though....
