Chemical Pregnancy? (longish) (updated)

Hi. I usually just lurk here, but my body is freaking out, and I was hoping someone would have some insight or support or, well, something.

AF came three days early, so I naturally didn't test (I usually don't, unless I'm late).

When it came time to start using my CBEFM I was still bleeding, but it gave me a peak reading. Same thing the next day. Used an OPK just to see if it would be positive. It was. And then I remembered seeing someone on these boards having a positive OPK that ended up being a pregnancy. So the next morning I took a pregnancy test, and it was positive.

That was Friday. I called my doctor, who ordered a blood draw, but gave me no information as far as what might be happening, what to expect, etc.

My HCG level Friday was 96 and I had another blood draw yesterday but haven't gotten the phone call with the results yet.

This is probably a chemical pregnancy, right? You can't bleed for fifteen days and stay pregnant, can you?

Update: Second beta was 82. So yeah, it was (is?) a miscarriage.

For now, I'm considering it progress, since we've been TTC for two years and never had a BFP at all. We see the RE a week from today, so hopefully this means our journey won't be as long and drawn out as I had originally feared.

TTC with MFI, PCOS, and endometriosis since February 2010

    Yes you can.

Good luck with your second beta!

ETA: I've had a CP. The bleeding lasted just about as long as my period normally would (so like 5 days) and I was getting negative tests by 17DPO.

  • Maybe. There are too many missing temps in your chart to be sure, but your current temps are more in alignment with your previous pre-O temps. 96 is a good beta for an early pregnancy, but a single beta # really means nothing except to tell you whether there is a pregnancy - you need more than one beta in order to get an idea of whether it looks like a pregnancy that is progressing in a healthy way. You have no way of knowing right now if 96 is a rising or falling number - the latter would mean mc is probably imminent. So, good luck with your second beta draw!
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

Honestly, anything is possible. If the tests were still positive, that's a good sign.

With all three of my chemicals, I didn't start bleeding until the tests were negative again.

    Good luck.

Same for me. I didn't bleed until my beta hit 0. Good luck!

  • I bled like a normal period, but my betas took about three weeks to get back to negative. GL.

  • I'm sorry you're going through this, I know it's stressful. I had a CP a few years ago. My initial draw was maybe 20, which was extremely low, and the tests turned negative immediately - like the day after getting a positive. I don't know if you know when you ovulated or how far along you could be, but 96 is much higher than 20, so think positive. And bleeding while pregnant is always scary, but it really is possible to have a viable pregnancy despite having some bleeding. So bottom line - don't lose hope, be cautious but optimistic, and please let us know what happens!

  • When I had my CP, I had TERRIBLE TERRIBLE cramps and lots and lots of blood.  It was very different from period cramps and bleeding.
