Household cleaners

What household cleaners do you use?

Do you use antibacterial/anti viral products?

I'm attempting to decrease the number of chemicals that we have/use in the house but cleaners is a tough one. One for the counters, one for the sink, one for the floor, one for the windows, one for the toilet, one for the tub etc. I'm starting to take a "less is more" approach. We have a floor steamer, but I've found that it hasn't done a good job. Thoughts/recommendations? (Sry about the jumbled thoughts)

Re: Household cleaners

  • Unless it's a tough job I use vinegar and water for everything. I have 2 bottles made up, one with a cap of Lavender oil in it.

I use the steam mop and feel it does a good enough job. I use bar keepers friend on the sink and pots.

I think this is the easiest way for a generic household cleaner...

  • I'm really bad about this.  I use all the same cleaners my Mother used to use.

  • I use vinegar and water for most stuff or the 7th generation wipes but when the woman comes to deep clean she uses bleach on my floors and all the harsh stuff to clean the bathroom- its every other week so i dont feel too bad about it

What household cleaners do you use?  We mainly use Method products.

Do you use antibacterial/anti viral products?  On the kitchen counters and tablecloth I do.

We have a floor steamer, but I've found that it hasn't done a good job. Thoughts/recommendations? I have loved our Shark steam mop...is something wrong with it?(Sry about the jumbled thoughts)

I use Lysol something or another for the toilet, as the Method toilet bowl cleaner never seemed to work really well.  I also use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for hard to clean stuff.

  • I'm going to try those. The other day I was using lysol floor cleaner and B stepped right in it. I started thinking that there has to be a healthier alternative. So any suggestions for a glass top stove? How do you clean that without the harsh chemicals?

  • I use vinegar&water for most things. I have windex for glass though bc I think the vinegar&water leaves streaks. And Clorox wipes for occasional use like when I cook up meat I use it to wipe down the counter afterwards. And magic erasers for the tub and I have to use them on our baseboards since the previous owner painted them all white, grrr.
  • I use Shaklee (sp?)  My friend hosted a Shaklee party a few years ago and I still have my starter set of the "get clean" formula.  I use it for all my countertop cleaning, glass cleaning, etc.  It is all natural and environmentally friendly stuff and it works really well.  You literally use a few drops of the concentrated solution mixed with 16 oz of water and have a whole cleaning solution.  I do have Clorox cleanup for the grout in my shower since I couldn't seem to get anything to work and I use magic erasers on the shower floor.
