C-sections

Scheduling

Because of a previous surgery as soon as I got pregnant, my doctor told me I'd have to have a c-section. He said that we'll schedule it a week to 10 days before my due date (somewhere between June 11th and 14th).

My question is, if you had a scheduled section when did your doctor schedule it? Again, I know that I'll have the baby around 39 weeks I just didn't know how early we could set the date.

  • I had a last minute c section but I would say you can schedule it now but if something changes the date would too!

  • Same here, due to a previous surgery, my OB told me I had to have a c-section in the beginning of my pregnancy. I was also told that they'll schedule it one week ahead of my due date, at 39 weeks. They officially put it on the books about 2 weeks ago (as soon as I hit the 3rd trimester) for one week before my due date. I was actually really relieved to know ahead of time how I'll be delivering and when....that is, as long as baby girl doesn't make an early appearance!

  • I was told a week before my due date, and that's when it is scheduled for. :-)

  • I'm having a scheduled c/s which was scheduled this week at 35w for delivery at 39w.

  • We haven't talked about scheduling this time yet, but with DD, we decided 11 days before my due date we decided to go for a c-section (following a growth u/s and internal exam that showed that DD wouldn't fit out on her own).  My OB's office contacted the hospital that day to schedule for the end of the week when I would be 39 weeks.  Most OB's won't schedule a c-section before 39 weeks due to the health of the baby.

  • It was decided at my 38 wk appointment I needed a c/s so it was scheduled that day for 39 wks 1 day .... I went into labor at 39 weeks so they did the c/s that day instead!

  • My OB doesn't usually schedule until 36w, but mine was scheduled at 20w.

  • I think it depends on the hospital's policy. At my hospital, they can schedule the month before. So for example, any c/s in January could be scheduled starting December 1. And unless there were complications, they couldn't be scheduled before 39 weeks.

  • I scheduled mine around 35 weeks but we didn't know for sure like you do that we were going with a c/s.  I don't know if the hospital would have scheduled it any earlier either.  But my LO was breech from week 29 on so I wanted the date on the schedule and when he still hadn't flipped at my 35w appointment, my OB said it was OK to schedule.  As for gestation, I had to be at least 39 weeks.  Due to the hospital schedule, ended up being 39w2d when I had the c/s.

  • My OB's office scheduler will call me after my 24wk appt or at least that's when they did for DS2. It really depends on your ob's office and how far out they do their schedule.

  • I am almost 37 weeks now, I have my c-section set for when I'm 39w 1d. But we picked the date during the first part of December (maybe end of November). But it usually depends on your OB and the hospital you are delivering at. The hospital I am going to Trieste get everyone to pre-register at least a month in advance (even if you are not having a c-section).

  • I was going back and forth between a vbac and rcs at 28 wks.  My ob recommended to schedule a cs asap to get it on the books if I was even contemplating one.  She said the "good times" (IE not 6pm since you can't eat or drink for 8 hours before) fill up really quickly.  Glad I did as LO is breech like my first and now I am all scheduled for exactly 39 +1 weeks at 9:30am :)

  • Mine was scheduled last week at 35 weeks for Feb. 17th, exactly 39 weeks.

  • Mine was scheduled at around 30 weeks for 39 weeks. Then it was rescheduled to 37 weeks. Then I was told I would be having it in a day and a half at not even 35 weeks, but that is a whole other issue. The original schedule was around 30 weeks at my check-up.
  • My dr said that he will schedule for 10 days before my due date and he could schedule right then and there, but I feel more comfortable delivering as close to the due date as possible, so I hope not to schedule the surgery until much closer.

  • I could have scheduled mine at my last appt at 28 weeks, but they switched up when the OBs do surgery so I had to go home to talk to DH about it.  I will schedule at my next appt at 31 weeks and scheduled around that time with DD too.  This one will be done at 39w2d b/c I like the OB doing it that day.

  • I set the date the same day of my "big" ultrasound at 18 weeks. I was 39.5 weeks for my RCS.
