To those of you in the area that do or ever have supported Animal Ark shelter, I strongly encourage you to read this.
Animal Ark considers themselves a no-kill shelter and will only euthanize any pet that is considered terminally ill or dangerous (as do most no-kill facilities).
However, just recently, and 8 month old puppy was euthanized after an issue with resource guarding. According to sources who were once closely involved with their project, this puppy was not offered any training or any help before his death sentence. The puppy supposedly had a foster family willing to take him back and work with him, but the director, Mike Fry, declined and decided to euthanize him. He was adopted out before any work was done on him, and ultimately an accident did happen and he bit his new owner (only a few days after being with the owner, who didn't want to put any effort into training him either). It was known to Animal Ark about his guarding but he was adopted out anyway. To me, that means that Animal Ark was looking to make a quick buck and passed the dog on anyway, and now, is likely being threatened with a lawsuit because of it.
I am writing this because this director, Mike Fry, is trying his hardest to cover up this incident. He has deleted things off of facebook and is trying his best to beat around the bush, if you will, to not answer questions directly.
On a side note, it's also been brought to my attention that there is a fear that Animal Ark's committee board there have been using donated money for things outside of the shelter, including their own car payments, radio gear, and cell phone bills. Do NOT offer them any more money or time! It could be used inappropriately and their morals and honesty has completely gone down the toilet.
Thank you for reading, and please contact me if you have any questions about this situation. I will do my best to answer any questions and find answers if I'm not able to answer them for you.
Re: NBR: Animal Ark
my read shelf:
Thank you so much for standing up too - I lost faith in Animal Ark about a year ago when I started hearing these things, but this last issue has made my skin crawl. That man has lied and twisted anything and everything around to make himself look better. There are several other groups now catching wind of this story and the things Mike Fry has done, so here's hoping that something gets done and Mike Fry can finally be fired and we can help save the lives and sanity of the pets still in need of homes at Animal Ark.
AHS isn't exactly a picture-perfect rescue organization either, but right now I think they are doing a better job than Mike Fry. Janelle at AHS has some different views on how her organization is run, but I don't think every rescue in MN and elsewhere is 100% perfect.
If you feel extra strongly about this and want to e-mail the only person with half a spine at Animal Ark, you can e-mail Steve Bell, the current president/treasurer of Animal Ark right now. He can be reached at: Steve.bell@multibandusa.com.
Thanks for your support!
