Nicholas has broken out in hives twice. I am fairly nervous that he has some allergies in play. What do you think about allergy testing a 5 month old? Like is a no for you...or maybe RAST or skin test? Just looking for your thoughts if you have any.
thanks

It's a tough one, allergy testing is not always so helpful. I would have done the same but it can be hard to interpret the results. There are not really "normal values" perse. RAST test results are more like probabilities that someone is allergic to something, not a sure bet, also a high value does not indicate a BAD allergy, just a probably allergy. There is some research that helps, a guy named Sampson has established some levels for common antigens that indicate a very high likelihood of allergy so I usually test for those since I have something that will help me interpret it, like milk, eggs, wheat.
the best thing would probably be for you to keep a log of what you eat and what he eats and when he breaks out maybe you will notice that you had peanut that day, or oranges, something really common to cause allergies.
Some times hives can be from cold, heat, or from nothing at all. It is not always an allergy but it certainly can be so it pays to look for one. I am so sorry your poor little baby is doing through this. I hope you figure out what it is soon.
