C-sections

I am having my second c/s Thursday

And I am nervous.

My first (failed induction) was great - I was fine, recovery went very well - no complaints.

But I am very scared this time -  I will be taking care of my new baby, chasing my very wild 2 1/2 yo, and recovering from surgery. This pregnancy has been significantly rougher on me than my first.

Any wise words or advice?

  • I feel ya! That sounds like my exact situation- I just have a little bit longer to wait till my CS! :) From what I have heard on here though, a planned c-section with no laboring before hand is MUCH easier to recover from.. I am banking on this myself! :) Good luck!

I have not spent too much time lurking around here. I will read through some more posts.

  • How much help will you have after the baby is born?  Arranging for full-time help with your older one is my biggest piece of advice.

I tried for a VBAC a few months ago with my second, but ended up with another c-section, which I had known would be a possibility.  Part of the reason I had pushed for a VBAC, though, was because I was so scared about having to take care of a toddler after recovering from surgery.  While my husband is supportive, I didn't think he had thought through how much and what ways he'd need to help (i.e. do everything I as a SAHM had done).

In talking to other moms who'd been in my situation, they said getting dedicated help for the first three weeks was a must and then that they were recovered enough to be on their own with both kids.  So my husband took two weeks off and then we shipped our older one off to his grandparents the third week when my husband went back to work.  And then for two weeks after that, we hired periodic babysitters, just so I knew I'd have breaks here and there.  There were a lot of things that were easier about a second c-section, but physically, recovery did take longer, so I was really thankful that I had no responsibilities for my older one for those three weeks.

  • This is my exact situation.  I had a fantastic experience with my first CS and I am scared to death about my second in 6 weeks... and the recovery, caring for a 2 1/2 year old, etc.  I have no advice but I pray that everything goes well for you and that once you are there you can relax and enjoy the birth of your new baby!  GL!

  • I was in a similar situation not too long ago. I had a c/s after a failed induction but it was awful. Absolutely terrible. Recovery was very difficult. I just had my rcs in the beginning of november and it was fabulous! Recovery was a breeze. I was feeling 90% when I left the hospital (2 days pp) and 100% at one week pp. I was very worried about caring for my (then) 21 month old DD but it ended up being no problem. DH was home with me for the first week but after that I didn't have any help and didn't need it. Good luck! I hope your experience is as positive as mine was.

  • My second was much easier than my first (both were planned).  You will be fine!!  I think its worse just knowing everything in advance.

Mine are 18 months apart.  Not the easiest thing in the world, but I have done it for almost a year.  I don't have family around.  Just me and my husband.  We havent been on a date in forever!

Make sure you take some time for your self once in a while :)

  • I think subsequent csection are a bit easier to deal with because you know what to expect and you know your limits. Try to get as much help as possible and don't overdue it!
  • you're going to do awesome!

  • Congrats even though you're nervous! I'm having my RCS on Thursday as well! I think I'm more anxious that nervous, and I'm more nervous about making sure DS gets back and forth to school the week after surgery. I'm just ready to meet LO and hold her :)
