Trying to Get Pregnant

If you spot many days before your period...come in.

I've googled this a bunch but everything that comes up is about implantation bleeding and I know I am not pregnant.

I usually spot before my period but this month has been crazy. This is my 6th day of heavy spotting, varying from dark brown to bright red, but not enough to need a tampon. I was so hopeful this morning with a slight increase in flow and marked CD 1, but then it totally tapered off so I don't think this is a period.

Have you ever had a cycle where you weren't sure if you got a period or not? I guess I just need to wait it out, but if I just stop bleeding I am not sure how to mark it in FF. So frustrating...

TIA

  • Last cycle I had spotting from 6 dpo til AF. It was quite annoying but I knew it wasn't my period. 6 days of spotting then 5 of AF.

  • I read somewhere that spotting before AF means that your progesterone is low. Maybe you should get your progesterone checked or try some progesterone cream after ovulation each month?

  • I usually lurk but I have and hate this! I am on CD2 of cycle 9. Of the 9, I have had this probably 5 of the cycles. I have no idea why, but am interested if anyone has insight. i will be seeing ob next month for yearly and will discuss at that time. I also have fairly short LP (9days).

This is a possibility and was true for me. When I went to see my OB for my annual after I was TTC for 6 cycles, I brought my charts. I ended up on prometrium, which helped tremendously with my LP length (which was usually 10-11 days at that point) and excessive LP spotting.

She took 7dpo bloodwork to determine my progesterone levels.

  • 2 cycles ago I had 5 days of spotting starting about a week after ovulation. It went from light pink, to red, to dark brown. I had had spotting before but it was generally closer to when I would start my period.

It's something I talked to my RE about last month. His initial gut was my ovulation was off, even though my charts indicated a thermal shift and I was getting positive OPK's he said he didn't trust that info.

Sorry I have nothing more to offer. I guess I can totally understand the frustration though.

  • Thanks everyone! It just sucks for charting, but also for having sex because I feel so gross.

  • I haven't always had spotting, but for the last year or so I've had 2-3 days of spotting before my period and about 2-3 days afterwards.  I don't know if it's my age or what.

    This

My BFF went through fetity treatments and her RE told her the spotting was due to low progesterone.

  • I usually heavily spot for 2 - 2 1/2 weeks before AF arrives. I don't think I have ever spotted for less than 8 days before AF. None of my ob/gyns have addressed this, but hoping it will be addressed soon.

  • Interesting. I've always spotted randomly throughout my cycle - even in bcp. I usually spot for 4-5 days leading up to my period. Now I'm curious about my progesterone.

You all are scaring me about the progesterone. I've spotted for days this cycle. Ugh...great.

I'm pretty sure that spotting around O is different from spotting in your LP. I spot for 1-2 days before my period. TCOYF says that coupled with a short LP, spotting before your period could be a sign of low progesterone. And don't be too scared, if you have low Pit is treatable. If anyone does go get checked by their OB for this make sure you are 7 days post o, not cd 21.

Me. While TTC, my LP's were 9 to 11 days and I would start spotting 3 to 4 days after O, every cycle. My P4 was tested at 7DPO and was fine (19 something). My RE had no explanation..thought I did have high FSH. The cycle I got pregnant my P4 was actually lower than the cycle I had it tested and wasn't pregnant (17 something).

It's annoying, I should have bought stock in pantiliners!

  • I have breakthrough bleeding every cycle. This is due to low progesterone so I started taking 50mg of vitamin B6 CD1 of my current cycle and I confirmed with my Dr. that I could up it to 100mg per day. I am CD26 and have yet to have any breakthrough bleeding. So, for me, I believe the B6 is working.

  • Yes, last month AF was supposed to start on Jan 7....I started spotting that day and continued to spot for 6 days.  It varied between light brown to very light red, but it never turned into what it should have to count it as AF.  Given the timing and the duration of the spotting I went ahead and counted it.  I still don't know if it was or not....if it was, then I am on CD 18 (I think....my siggy obviously doesn't show as I am typing) but still no O in sight.  VERY frustrating.
