question about shoes and vacation

We are going on 2 vacations --1 in Feb to Jamaica and 1 in March to Disney.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma with regards to shoes for DD for Jamaica. In Disney she can wear her every day sneakers, but I don't want her wearing them on the beach in Jamaica and getting them all sandy. DD has extra wide feet and I don't want to spend $40 on Stride Rite sandals for her now bc it's the middle of winter and they probably will no fit her in the summer. I'm at a loss here.

Oh--I also checked ebay and stride rite extra wide sandals are around $25. Not too bad, but for her to wear for just a few days, it's still alot

Any suggetions?

  • For the most part, you could probably have her without shoes. Just carry her a lot. For the beach, the water sock thingees. Those are stretchy and dont need wides.

  • We went on a cruise when E was 13 months. She was already walking. We just brought her Robeez. They were perfect both on the boat and for excursions (including beach and pool).

  • This doesn't really help your delimma for the vacation, but just FYI for extra wide feet...

My daughter has really wide feet, and I found that Sun San Saltwater sandals (really only the "Surfer" style because some of the cuter, strappy ones are too narrow), fit her great! They are quality, real leather, that can be worn for most occasions. I like them better than Stride Rite because the strap can be adjusted so much. You can find them on Ebay new for $30 (worth it for the whole summer), but you can get them used for cheaper. Since they're leather, they can be cleaned really easy with a Mr. Clean stick. I actually wore them as a child, and they were made for the water, before water shoes came about. Check them out, and maybe you can find a cheap pair since it's out of season right now. They would work for the beach, but also be cute with sundresses for the rest of the vacay! The come in tons of cute colors too!

  • Go to target, get a size up, ditch them after the trip.

  • Just to reiterate...if you look on Ebay and see some used ones that look like the inside soles are dirty (like you can see the toe prints...gross, I know), you can usually scrub that out with the magic eraser stick. I use one on all my daughter's shoes, everytime she wears them. I hate dirty shoes!
